There's an opportunity to witness something extremely rare today. The Yanks have been no-hit through 9 but are tied going into the bottom of 10. If the yanks execute some small ball and cash the runner from 2nd they could win the game while being no-hit.

Romano has been so good, but it's scary that he's suddenly struggling. We don't really have anyone else that can fill his role.

Phew.
Sweep!
7-2 over that 9 game stretch is very palatable. And are now a game ahead of the Mariners.

Getting Swanson back soon with Green, Hicks, and Mayza, they should be able to find creative ways to rest Romano.

Too bad Richards has lost his MOJO. Should be getting Swanson back soon and then we'd have our fully loaded pen finally.
It's crazy that the only guy from the pen that's a free agent is Hicks and the Jays have guys like Danner, Cooke and Juenger pretty much ready. Plus Zulueta is still around. Then you have Pop, Pearson and White....and yes, don't look now but White has been pitching very well lately.

I have been wondering lately given the strength of their bullpen and Schneiders preference to only have the starters pitch 5 innings if they should try using an opener for 1-2 innings.

Well. I'm pretty damn excited for this series to start. If the Jays could win 3 of 4 they'll be 3.5 up and will have the tiebreaker against Texas. So basically 4 games up with 15 to play.

The Jays also have the advantage of the M's, Astros and Rangers all playing each other quite a bit down the stretch. It's impossible for all 3 of those teams to go on a hot streak because of that.

Interesting and useless tidbit: thanks to the sweep at the hands of the Blue Jays, the Royals have overtaken the Athletics at the bottom of league standings!

My one thing over this stretch was no lost series and at least one sweep of the As or Royals. So far so good.

Y’all are forgetting the most important thing. The baseball Gods are finally smiling down on the Jays.
No other way to explain the events of that 6th inning last night.

If you count the guardians series they played 15 games in a row against non-playoff teams. They won 10 of the 15, so 0.666.
I think going 0.666 against the bottom end of the league and splitting 50/50 against the top teams is probably a reasonable model for a successful baseball team.
They probably only need to play slightly better than 500 ball the rest of the way - they have 19 games left I think 10 wins gets them in. Maybe even less if they win the series against the Rangers or one of the AL West teams drop off.

Yes, but also they needed better than "Good" over this stretch to get back into the play-off spot.
I didn't factor in the Rangers cratering in my math.

True. Seattle has been weak as well, with both teams 3-7 over their last 10, which obviously helps.

Kinda goes into what I was saying the other day. Baltimore is going to take the overall AL crown but the numbers don’t show them being the best team in the league.
