[QUOTE=TrentCrimmIndependent;9243181]Maybe this will push Bouch Balm to 'dig in' and have a hot couple months and shoot for 12M. He's a future HOFer, after all, along with RNH.[/QUOTE
It would be nice to see these HOF'ers get in first ballot, its also about time that Rob Schremp goes in as well.

I've been arguing with Oilers fans about this too. Like the comeback last season is the norm not the outlier. Add to that, the Oilers are older and slower too.

Yeah - they have been able to dig themselves out of holes the past couple seasons.
In 22-23 they had a 9 game win streak.
In 23-24 they had an 8 game and the 16 game win streak.
It's tough to replicate that year over year though and they have to find a more consistent game, which they just have struggled with throughout the McDavid era.
They are lucky they are in the Western Conference which is relatively weak though - because they should be able to get into the playoffs almost by default.

He can't handle the pressure of this big important contract year and is seeing tens to hundreds of thousands of future contract dollars slipping away with each poor game.

This is it. They aren't really that far out being a sub .500 team. Sure the Canucks have a few games on them, but they are only 2 points out of that 3rd Pacific spot. The Pacific is baaaad.

Based on point percentage they are a bit out of the pacific spot with Vegas (.731), LA (.679), and Vancouver (.682) all having decent starts - for comparison last year it was Vancouver (.665) , Edmonton (.634), and LA (.604).
So the top 3 in the Pacific are all playing at a higher clip than the top 3 did last year right now.
The real thing is the lack of depth in the West - so Edmonton probably can string together enough of a stretch to get into a wild card spot at least.

The Oilers are far from out of it, but hopefully this slow start forces them through a more difficult path in the playoffs.

They basically sent out every depth forward that played any kind of defensive game so that they could sign old, one-dimensional forwards that mostly only produce when given big minutes.
They have no first round pick to trade this year for help. Their goaltending looks awful. Their defence is awful. They have a Stanley cup hangover without the Stanley cup. I would not be surprised if they end up missing the playoffs by a few points.

If you look at the 2 big signing this off season, both are pacing for very bad seasons. But what did they expect?
Arvidsson average over 3 mins a game in the PP. This year he around 1 min per game and a total of 1 minute of PP time with McDavid. He has 1 shot on the PP all year and 1 assist.
Skinner averged 2.5 mins per game on the PP. This year he's under 1 min a game and also has 1 total minute played with McDavid on the pp. He has 3 shots and 0 points on the PP.
Not only are they not getting PP time but they are getting the last 15 seconds of the PP when they first unit comes off. Likely when the PK team is icing the puck the top guys come off the ice.
Foegele has 5 goals and is plus 6
Broberg 9 points in 12 games
Holoway has 6 points in 13 games
Oilers PK is below 60%
Their off season is looking very bad so far.

That's a perfect example. There is only so much pp time, McDavid / draisaitl line time, etc. there's only so many goals, and when you combine challenges like age/skill/current career trajectory/etc, you can get results like that. A bit of under valuing things you have in pursuit of the new, shiny toys.

It's incredible that they give their PP2 0-15 seconds of the powerplay. Enough to make one play if it's lucky, or nothing at all, depending on the importance of said PP and if lord dickwad wants to stay out there.
Why even get these players if you don't utilize them in offensive situations lol.
Oh well, they've made their bed of stupid.

Always reminds me of the old adage...you can have as many shooters as you want, but theres only 1 puck.

Yeah, Colorado is getting back on track. I doubt the Flames will be in that WC1 by the end of the month, so it is just St. Louis and Utah. They won't need a heroic effort, but I also don't think they have it in them to replicate something like that with this team. Philly will be laughing all the way to the draft.
