I think the better question is...why are there lights there at all?
That whole video there was not a single pedestrian, cyclist or crossing traffic that needed to be yielded to.
What is the point of putting lights there?
"We need to disrupt the primary flow of traffic on the off-chance that somebody needs to cross right at that particular intersection!"
I walk through there every day I go downtown and they were only installed last week. As I saw them putting them up, I asked myself the exact same question.
I've been walking to work that way since we went back in the office in January and have not seen any close calls there at all. There was a pedestrian flashing light there previously and virtually no vehicles going through the intersection during the morning rush.
It's northbound Edmonton Trail, so hardly anyone is on that road in the morning. In the afternoon, anyone turning there is usually making a right turn -- which they can still do with a red. The cross road (Meredith) has hardly any traffic because it only serves a small number of residences.
It's just another baffling light installed on Edmonton Trail in the last couple of years. As I've said before, someone at city hall has to be getting a kickback from the traffic light maker because, as a resident of the area who walks these areas regularly as well as driving, they are absolutely not needed.

There are more pedestrian crossing options from Mayland Heights across Barlow trail in 7 blocks (including at a newly rebuilt intersection which ostensibly wasn’t actually intended to remove the traffic light despite preventing traffic flow in that direction but whatever) than there is to cross into neighbouring commuters of Ramsay and Inglewood, or East Village and Victoria Park. Cracks me up.

Anyone notice these "would you like to donate to charity" spiels have gotten way longer at checkouts? They've started adding a description of what you'd be supporting on top of the name.
"Do you want to donate to X cancer initiative....which goes towards helping children of the parents who have been involved directly or indirectly with cancer and not to mention it will also help with world hunger and other various societal problems......or.....are you a bad per....okay you're a bad person, tap your card when you're ready, sir".
I believe when you donate that way the store gets the tax credit but you don’t. We donate to the Salvation Army, World Vision Canada, the local food bank, and Incarnation Ministeries. I want the tax saving.

It’s always worth remembering in these situations that most of the weight of them is placed there by you alone. These people hear hundreds of “no”s every day on a question they are required to ask everyone. They do not think about you as an individual and whether you are or are not a bad person… at all… possibly ever.

Asking for donations should be banned unless the store is matching donations
Even then I’m not sure I support it as it “preys” on peoples who can’t say no

Just another thing large corporations do to look altruistic without affecting their bottom line (in this case, maybe even improving it). I agree it preys on people who can't say no.

You Know What Really Grinds My Gears? Now with 3x more gears...
Colour matching paint in a 12 year old house, and the original paint manufacturer (General Paint) isn’t around any more. We’ve taken in original Paint codes, leftover paint, chunks from the wall, etc. and no one can get a perfect match. We tape up all sorts of samples and watch as the light changes, think we have the perfect match, order and try it. Nope, never the same.
Chip in a wall means ignoring it, or filling and repainting the whole wall.

Fresh Kd just hot off the stove is the ####ing bomb. It turns into absolute medical hazardous waste as it cools, but that doesn't change the fact what it's hot and fresh it's fantastic

The choice is clear.

Why are new houses decorated mostly in black and white colours. including the furniture. It's downright depressing. I have often wondered if it expresses the overall mood of society in general, and indicating we are heading for tough times.
I also dislike the box like architecture of the new infills and houses. I would much prefer the classic over the trendy look any day.

Many households these days are modern, sleek, cold and sterile.
Many of these houses hold nothing against the mismatched, chaotic, warm homes of decades past.
The amount of homes that have beautiful trim and finishings, but nearly all human personality and indication scrubbed completely from the main areas is pretty damn high. It's like a show home with no indication of who lives there. No pictures, very generic displays etc. Devoid of personality and character. It actually feels like some people are transactional with their own homes. It's hella weird.
It used to be photos everywhere, insane displays all over the place... etc. I have a buddy who has a god damn 8 foot spider on his ceiling for Halloween that sometimes takes too long to take down until it's absolutely necessary for Christmas. His family photos are replaced with ghost pics for those festivities. You used to have those buddies that laugh at the hole in the wall from a few years prior due to some raucous party anecdote... I blame social media.
If sterile looking homes is the price we pay to never have to deal with the avocado or pink coloured accessories of the dark times, then it's a price worth paying.
