I feel like Philly can easily find a taker for Konecny at full cap and get a positive return in the form of picks and a prospect. Likely tough to get a 1st based on his rough year last year and the Flyers clearly desperate to offload salary. I could certainly see Seattle sending 2x2nds at minimum to get TK.
If the Flames can get him for basically free by taking on JVR and signing Johnny to a 8 year deal to bring the cap down over a million that would be a relatively decent consolation prize.
I know it is a far fetched idea

Chicago would easily take on JVR for a first.
I'd be shocked if they hadn't had prior conversations with Chicago, which is one of the reasons Chicago has been losing cap so readily.

Lucic likely gone regardless of Johnny coming back or not.

Forced into a rebuild is sound logic. But I do not believe they're going to throw in the towel. There's still other extremely good players to build around. Lindholm is getting seriously overlooked here as a cornerstone of this franchise. Then Markstrom and Andersson and Mangiapane if he signs reasonably.
If they lose both I can see them going full ham on 4 year deals for high end UFAs this offseason.
The next 48 hours are going to be crazy.

I still fear Jersey more than anybody else. They have the cap, they have the young core, and Johnny might very well fit their window.
Flyers, I don't know. Johnny would really have to have his heart set on Philadelphia because there's really nothing else (well, he's friends with Hayes I guess). It's a bad team, they have Torts now. Not exactly appealing.
I keep forgetting about the Isles. Might be a dark horse.

Not good that Philly are trying to clear Cap space so desperately. Its clear they want JG and think they can get him. Not looking good at all.

Let's not forget though people, the Flyers have an awful GM. Chuck Fletcher left holding the bag after proclaiming a big move offseason has a pretty true ring to it.

If Steinberg is right and Gaudreau was in fact willing to sign in the off-season, that will have turned out to be a very lucrative decision for 13 and an expensive one for the Flames no matter how this turns out.
We did get contract year Gaudreau and that is the best he has ever played so atleast there’s that. And a round one playoff victory which has been rather rare around these parts.

Is this happening or just a rumour somewhere?

Steinberg said yesterday that he thinks they got extremely close but the Gaudreau camp backed out and decided to roll the dice. Worked out extremely well for them regardless.
I wonder if Johnny having a baby on the way makes the pull to head closer to home that much more appealing

He is a terrible GM but it appears he's on the same page with the owner who seems to be fine just throwing stuff against the wall hoping anything sticks. No real team building strategy going on there.

Yep in my view that's a key item, he may want to reside allot closer to their family
That's probably why he has not yet made a decision

True, my point being though that he may think he has a fish on the line but it could just be stuck on the dock.

Put this on the trade thread instead of this thread by accident.
Frank on the fan still saying he doesn’t know but he says there has been a significant push from the Flames. A massive offer in front of Johnny that makes him one of the highest paid players in the league.
Frank implied they are at $10M+ right now

First I’ve seen that in this thread (about the baby). I heard that a few weeks ago and apparently his wife wants to be close to home. That’s primarily why I think he’s gone.
But the other question, of course, is what he’s actually worth. He’s obviously important to the Flames, but is he $11-12m important? At some point you’re overpaying just to get a deal.

If Johnny does not re-sign and Tkachuk won’t sign long term there is no point in spending assets to get rid of lucic . Granted I think both sign and lucic is traded .

If the first offer was at $9.5M as rumoured, a "massive offer" would, in my mind, be $11M plus.

I'm not. I would have been surprised if they got a deal done sooner.
Unless he signs a short contract which I doubt, Johnny won't get another contract this big in his career. Him and his agent are going to try and get the best deal. At the same time the Flames are going to try and get a deal as close to whatever number they had in mind so they have more money to spend elsewhere.
