Just wait until all hell breaks loose once companies start picking the wrong stations to name

"Next Stop; Southland Leisure Centre Heritage Station"

followed by "Heritage Park Chinook Station"

"Chinook Centre 39th Ave Station"

"Anderson Station by Shawnessy YMCA"

The problem is that station names also serve a navigation and wayfinding purpose. There's dozens of ATB locations in Calgary, so including it in the name of, say, Crowfoot Station creates unnecessary confusion. There's only one Saddledome, and one Talisman Centre, but lots and lots of LRT stations. Calling one the A&W station when there may be a few others that are close to A&Ws can become problematic. Also, if these things will be changing every couple or three years, it can become especially confusing for infrequent users and tourists.

Also, as YNAT brought up, we're talking about less than a percent of current annual revenues that this would bring in.

There are 82 of Calgary’s original LRT cars still rolling along the C-Train lines, nearly all starting in 1981 or 1982. In fact, it took until this year’s acquisition of new-generation trains for the Siemens SD-160s to outnumber the U2s.

According to a city transportation report, here’s how the old clunkers will be phased out:

2011: 82 in service

2012: 79 (West LRT starts)

2013: 71

2014: 63 (four-car service starts)

2015: 55

2016: 46

2017: 37

2018: 29

2019: 21

2020: 13

2021: 8

If we're adding extra days to the year, can we add them to summer? January is long enough as it is.

The worst part about these old cars is the heating vents still pump out heat from the brakes in the summer. I accidentally touched my leg against it on a 29 degree day (it's right beside the seats) and burned my leg. Pretty ridiculous.

Or when you are crammed in anywhere near the door and get smoked by it every time it opens. The sliding doors are a lot nicer.

That's not really a design flaw. North American people in 1981 could fit comfortably through both sides of the bar in the door, not so much North Americans in 2011!

Perhaps it's been discussed before, but why is bus service so much more reliable in the morning than in the afternoon? Calgary Transit deals with the same traffic issues, the same ridership generally, the same weather, and the same staff, right? So why are they on the dot on time in the morning, but badly out of sync in the afternoon? To the point where in the afternoon, the schedule is useless, as you can wait 3 or 4 bus "arrival times" in the afternoon, while you never see a missed bus in the morning on the same route? Can anyone explain this?

Probably because in the morning, the bus you're catching is pretty far away from the congestion, and didn't start anywhere near it, so it's easy to stay on time. In the afternoon however, the busses are all crammed into exactly where the traffic is the worst when you're trying to get on, so they are more likely to be delayed.

Plus it's probably safe to assume that for non 24hr service this is the norm. Any small disruption durring the day can add up if it doesn't get addressed, so scheduling becomes harder and less reliable as the day wears on and there are more minor probelms building up.
