Cito has been huge for Lind. Can't believe Gibbons left this kid in AAA.

Just tell the guy he's gonna play with the big club, keep him loose, and reap the benefits.

6-6 now.

Carlson gives up a 2-run shot to Beltre on an eye-level fastball.

Downs' scoreless streak is over with a solo shot by Sexton.

Into the 9th we go!

How can a piece of crap like Sexton hit a clutch homer yet Wells, Rios, Overbay, etc., etc. can't do it to save their lives.

Bottom to the 9th, tie game...bed time for me. Should be a pretty predictable ending. Hopefully I wake up to a nice surprise.

Up 6-2 on the worst team in baseball and manage to cough up the lead.

Good pitching and good hitting don't seem to go hand in hand with this team.

And the Jays lose on a single, sacrifice bunt, and single/double to the gap.

Personality conflicts aside, Sexton is a regular 30+ HR player (39 3-years ago)...

Rios has a career high of 24. Wells has a career high of 32. Overbay has 22. Rolen has hit at most 22 in the past 3 years. Stairs? 21.

Sexton is a reliable power bat... something the Jays don't have. I'm not sure what you're expecting, but it sure seems to be out of whack with reality.

that's the thing about baseball, it's a tough game to see your team lose in bad way one night, but you forget that there are eighty more games in the season. The mariners have a thing with us this season. I would try to trade someone for erik Bedard when the buying is cheap.

We lost, so what. We never should have seen a six two lead, nor the six five score. Those scores occurred due to fielding errors. baseball is like that, mess up and the dude who should have never got the at bat hurts you.

the jays are a five hundred team plus or minus ten. Welcome another mediocre draft year. Thank god Dcooper is already hitting with lansing.

The guy has an OPS of less than .700 the past two seasons. He's slugging .371 this year. His career has dropped off significantly.

And yet he's still getting it done. Sometimes there are things that numbers just don't tell...

.226/.312/.387 for a .699 OPS is really getting it done?

Getting booed by your own fans is getting it done?

Being rumored to be waived all through-out June is getting it done?

One HR doesn't make a season.

Yahoo! Sports grades all the teams in the MLB; gives the Jays a C-

I think a little generous.

Quote:
Too many knee-jerk decisions and off-hand comments from the front office. Too little wiggle room in a division where the one consolation the Blue Jays always could count on – being better than the Rays – has deserted them. If the Blue Jays were in the NL West, they’d be 1˝ games out of first place. And if a third grader was still in kindergarten, he’d probably be getting straight As.

if by "IT" you mean mediocre defence, a ton of K's and consistanly reduced production then ya, he's getting that done.

I haven't seen a player so unpopular to its home fans since Patrice Brisbois, and there is talk there that he'll be released soon. He's old, has no eye, and a big swing ... a bad combo.

^^ by "IT" I meant power and timeliness.

He has 10 home runs this season, 2 more than the Jays leaders (Wells and Stairs), and yet is 'garbage'.

Is it where fans expect him to be? No. Is it where he expects himself to be? I doubt it. Is he hitting for a good average? No.

... and yet he still hit a pretty timely power home run against the Jays.

With all of the improvements that the Jays have been showing since Cito took over, they could still use more "IT".

No doubt a team in the AL East thats played what....85 games now and has zero players with 10 home runs thus far isnt' going to get it done.

I only saw a bit of the game last night, and I was liking what Mullinicks was saying. It was during Rios' at bat in the 8th, and with 0 out, a runner on first, and a full count, Rance was saying last night Rios bit on a curve, he needs to sit on the pitch and wait it out. Pit comes in - a curve, and Rios was ripping away at it, missing by a foot at a pitch that fell 8" outside the strike zone.

That's the type of MLB hitters insight I hope to hear - a solid batter who remembered what the pitcher did last night and showed the fans a hitters thought process. It seems fewer and fewer colour guys are willing to take you inside the strategy of the game; they all seem more interested in coming up with an anecdote for every player at bat.

Looks like the Jays are trying to trade Burnett for a shortstop.

Here in Chicago, the Cubs are desperate for a starting pitcher. After Dusty Baker chewed through their young starting pitchers a few years ago (Woods, Prior, Zambrano)... only Zambrano remains as a starter and even he cant be the workhorse forever.

Burnett, CC Sabathia, Randy Wolf and Rich Harden were named as targets for the Cubs, but they dont have much to offer in the way of prospects.

I doubt they would part with him but this young kid - Ryan Theriot - has been dynamite for the Cubs so far. Depending on how desperate they get and what Burnett's value is, this would be ideal for the Jays.

By reading the article from TSN, it sounded like the Jays are trying to obtain an MLB ready Shortstop for Burnett. Not sure about prospects....
