Damn so Sweden opting to have an injured Hedman not playing but on the bench over playing Rasmus. That’s brutal for him and very odd decision by their coach

Wait, actually?
I mean at the end of the day when questioning the decision making of the powers that be in Hockey Canada in determining these olympic roster questions, we cannot forget that other countries are often even stupider than we are.

Slovakia won that group by best goal differential in the Finland/Slovakia/Sweden trio of games. So they're the three seed. Finland is 4, and Sweden is 7.
It's dumb that Germany and Switzerland were both seeded higher than Sweden from group play because the second best teams from group stage were seeded 4-5-6. But that's how it is. So it's either Sweden or Finland next.

See this is why challenges would be tough here.
That lazy change by the d-men probably happens a lot and wouldn't be unique to this play.
But what remains unique to this play is the 4 forwards on the ice for the entire shift.
It's shocking a lineman didn't notice that as the change occurred, especially since their job is to monitor those line changes as the back linesman.

Yes I don’t think Hedman has played one shift. Pretty crazy to just play down a man vs the Americans knowingly.

Not that it should fall to them, but it's also weird that the Canadian bench didn't notice, including back in the Czechia zone and start calling for it from the bench. Most of the time players notice this stuff.
And I didn't notice it watching it live.
It's really good that the game didn't get decided by that. Would have been a black mark on the tournament and hard to excuse.

This would be one of the easiest challenges ever...compare that to an offside or a goalie interference.
Not only is it no goal its a Canada PP

Oh for sure.
I was more making the comment on people saying it's 8 players.
The reality was it was 6 players and 4 forwards for a whole shift, that's what needs to be focused on, not the dmen doing their change.

It's not like they're no name international hockey refs either. With the exception of Holm, you have 3 veteran NHL refs.
Canada vs. Czechia – 10:40 AM ET
Referees: Michael Holm #28 (SWE), Chris Rooney #5 (USA/NHL)
Linespersons: David Brisebois #96 (CAN/NHL), Jonny Murray #95 (CAN/NHL)
Strange no one picked it up during the play, including the Canadian players.

At the very least, those officials' Olympics should be over.

They 100% should be done...the panel playing it off like "missed calls on both sides" lol this was 6+ guys on the ice for 30 seconds not an iffy hook lol.
Czechia coach blaming the refs in his postgame also didn't age well.

The Swedish coach isn't playing Hedman or Bratt, after benching Forsberg most of the tournament. Explain that for me.

They are playing down two players after playing yesterday. Even if they win this game it’s still idiotic. I can’t think of any rationale explanation for that unless the coach has zero trust in Rasmus and their other sitting forwards. It still makes little sense

Someone needs to tell Connor Hellebuyck this is a playoff game.

No way to know for sure as there are things behind the scenes that we aren't privy to....but..it sure has the feel of "smartest guy in the room" syndrome.
