This suggests some of their "knowns" weren't known.

Didn’t pat steinberg also say he waived?

My read is that the NJ devils GM is also a pretty shrewd negotiator. I think he got Conroy to cave a little in the Toffoli trade because he had the leverage at that point. I think this is a bit of a ploy to see if Conroy will bend a bit again. This time Conroy stood his ground so NJ took the ball and went home. He will be back once we realizes that Conroy isn't sitting outside his window with a boombox over his head.

Believe he was quoting the two media insiders.

Sounded like he was confirming that he heard and he waived, and that New Jerrsey has been after him since November.

I took it that he heard it from the two mentioned. Could be wrong though!
And so could Lebrun!
My only point is that we shouldn't take everything said as 100% fact when they're a lot of dot connecting.

Fitz may also be hesitant seeing as the Toffoli deal has so far been perceived as a win by many for Calgary.
Could be a kind of "you owe me one" scenario which could lead to frustration when Conroy verifies if the deal can be beaten.

If Markstrom is prepared to waive at all I see no reason why he’d not waive for NJ.

I believe sec mentioned that the waiving of the NMC would be a formality and non-issue when the time comes.
To me there are two current teams that really need an upgrade on goaltending
New Jersey
LA - especially after yesterday

You have to strongly believe that Martin Brodeur as well as Fitzgerald is heavily involved in any decision regarding New Jersey's goaltending situation.

Isn't LeBrun usually more accurate with his Flames reporting? I'd trust him over Frank.

Frank has disappointingly been off this last little while. I would trust LeBrun on this.

I would trust Lebrun on this.
He has the most intel about the Flames usually.
Lebrun is also a reporter, and Frank is more a basement blogger trying to get as many hits on his podcast and website.

Isn't Leslie very accurate also but rarely ever gets involved in trade talks?

Francis was on the radio this morning too and seemed very surprised by Frank's report and seemed to question that the trade was brought to Markstrom (didn't really seems like he trusts/likes Frank that much either but that's a different discussion).
I'm not the biggest Francis fan but he was travelling with the team and does seem to have some inside knowledge at times.

Seravalli does seem to have a history of overplaying his hand. “These LOA’s are not related in any way”.
Is it possible Conroy didn’t handle this perfectly? Of course. But let’s see how it plays out, sure seems he actually has a plan.
It does feel like info is leaking out more than before and we’re seeing it with more people on CP hearing from people inside the organization. You can probably attribute that to Conroy’s inclusive style vs. Treliving’s one man show.

So what are we blaming Conroy for? Trying to get the best deal for us not just giving players away?
I am loving this. Unlike Feaster who was a pushover and gave players away for D prospects.

I think Conroy is handling this perfectly. He has shown with the Lindholm deal that he can be patient and wait for the right deal to emerge. He also knows he is dealing from a position of strength here. Markstrom has term and he is playing really well ... they could easily wait until the offseason to make a move, or even decide to keep him into next season. They don't have to deal him now. So you want him now? Pay up, especially when you want the Flames to retain. Conroy is right to demand a lot, and I think he is comfortable standing pat if nobody forces their hand with a great offer. Personally, I'd absolutely love the Devils to step up (I still think Calgary and New Jersey are a trade match made in heaven), but I won't lose sleep if it doesn't happen. The Flames could easily find a great trade in the offseason too.
