A couple of things really bothered me this year. Pressing on Markstrom when Vladar had a legitimately solid points percentage. Nick Ritchie in the shootout.. that must have been so insulting to some of the players on the bench.
I forgot about the Nick Ritchie shootout. Thanks for reminding me.

Like most of you, I blame the whole damn group - GM, coaching and the players. Some of Darryl's decisions were, at best, questionnable. A lot of the players only showed a basic effort. And the really bad part was thinking it would be enough to pull the wool over our eyes. The people I feel the worst about are the thousands of fans that paid money and had to put up with the "he said, she said" display.
The players got their wish. Next season is totally on them. Let's see how they do with no one left to blame.

Then why not quit when it’s so apparent you’ve lost the room? I call BS on that. He knew he wouldn’t be back, and waited for the team to pay…which is 100% his right.
But to say he doesn’t care about the money is laughable.
This post is laughable. Sutters don't quit.

I agree. He looked like he mailed in the last 30 games or so. He looked great at the start of the season.
Guess we’ll see which Kadri shows up next season.
Maybe Kadri was burnt out from the long POs the year before plus the move plus the grind of not being firmly in the POs. Hopefully something like that and he can come back.

I know some forum members here have some inside connections. This morning, I heard from a credible source that the Flames, from top to bottom, this past season, the culture was very toxic.

which wouldn't surprise anyone who followed the Flames last season, I think. It's certainly the vibe I got from watching afar, it just felt like a team that was primarily wrestling with itself.

I feel like this is incredibly obvious and not even an "insider" type scoop.
When you have a GM literally quitting, yeah, it's gotta be pretty bad. How could it be though with such amazing leadership from the wizard behind the curtain owners and John Bean? Mix in a refusal to play young players, guys sulking and pouting on the ice, arena problems, coach doing moronic things constantly... strange. Really strange why it'd be toxic. And I have not even listed everything.
The organization is a total, complete, clusterF and it starts with Edwards.
That play at the end of the season where Kadri just lazily sweeps at the puck in our own end towards the end of the period and basically passes the puck to the other team and they score? I have never in 30 years seen an NHL player do something that lazy. That was next level not caring, almost to an impressive degree. Stuff like that is not happening unless things are insanely toxic. Organization is probably the worst in the NHL right now and the most toxic. Remember laughing at the #### show that was the Canucks in months Oct-Dec? That's us now.

I couldn’t believe that either. Wasn’t that Kadri’s second terrible play that game too? I recall him getting his pocket picked in the neutral zone and making zero effort to pursue the play

(I blame the goalies)
Yes, there were two. A giveaway behind the net and one at the blue line.
There are a few things you can point to I think in differences between LA and Calgary:
1) Location - obviously - being in LA during the winter is better than Calgary
2) Star player nationality - Gaudreau and Tkachuk were both American and may have preferred going back to the US. Became more of an issue during covid.
3) Winning - does everyone leave if they beat Edmonton and have a convincing series against Colorado in the WCF or win a cup?
No, I don't think they do.
Win that series and everything is different, with our 2 superstars staying put IMO.
Edmonton fans must be thrilled, they caused all this chaos in Calgary. Top 2 players leaving, coach & GM fired, Vezina quality goalie turned to a pylon.
But also what a house of cards it all was to collapse that easily.

It does seem like a lot of those Avs players weren't quite the same this season. It's why I give the Lighting a lot of credit for making three straight finals as it's incredibly hard to do given how hard players push themselves physically in this day and age. I expect both the Avs and Lightning to be better teams next season with a long offseason of rest. As for Kadri he was clearly the Flames best player early but it seems that after a few months that his differences with the coach led to him losing some enthusiasm and by the end of the season he was just riding things out.
Some players on this team really need to show up next year.
Yep, this x 10000.
Whining about the coach and his deployment and his bad attitude, fine. Fair. He's fired now. No excuses.
Need to see a way more dominant Huberdeau that consistently finds open teammates for goals. Need to see a way more consistent Kadri that backs defenders up on the forecheck. And need to see a return to the Lindholm from before who finds open areas and is a legitimate scoring threat.

Not sure how anyone could want to be Kadri's teammate after how he finished the season when the team was still fighting to make it.
Lol, “not sure how anyone could want to be his teammate” dramatic. Luckily real teammates (family, friends as well) forgive, forget, move on, and deal with issues rather than throw their hands in the air and give up on people.
Kadri will be just fine next year, and his teammates might even still like him. Good grief lol

What all this stuff about stopping whining (seemed directed at Huberdeau)?
I didn’t see Huberdeau whining. I saw him putting in the effort in to the low skill system deployed, and getting the results you get from playing a good chunk of time with middle and bottom six linemates on your off wing, in a low skill system.
I saw players who were visibly frustrated in their interviews, but the effort was there
I don’t question the character or effort at all there for most players on the team
(Kadri, different story. He obviously had many costly turnovers where the GAF meter was turned off)
I did not see the team as having an epidemic of whiners.

I don't know about that as he was probably celebrating with several teammates via text regarding yesterday's news. It's clear that he's not the only player on the team that was having a difficult time last season. When a career tenured Flame like Backlund dislikes the head coach so much he requests a trade you know that things are not good in the room.
