I remember going to the first Coyotes pre-season game the year of the initial bankruptcy filing when people literally thought the team was gone already. No joke, maybe 200 people in the building. It was the weirdest thing but the game was played and all was fine.

Fair points, but the NHL doesn't benefit directly from those. Simply close betting at IRL puck drop time, not broadcast time.

"All was fine". I just had to chuckle. I'm sure the building was crackling with excitement and the play was intense.

It's hard to explain. the music system was playing just like a normal game, the Jumbotron etc. It felt like the players were intense just like any other game. This was my first live Coyotes game since like 2001 and I was fresh off of going to games in Calgary. It was just like any other game.
Moral of the story: Millionaire players will get used to it

The logistics and cost per game probably don’t work out for 30 games for the 31 team’s. The cost of sequestering in a bubble model would be quite high for the 16 teams only playing one game. I think you would be better off doing 8 teams and three rounds of playoffs. More games and lower costs.

I don't like that idea if its radio tunes but I do like the idea of having chant/organ music playing during the play. Maybe you have fan chants dubbed in/over. Basically what you get at soccer matches, just through the stereo.
Would rather not have an exciting breakaway happen to the tune of a hokey pop song. Would suck the coolness right out of the play. But some hockey chant tunes would be appropriate while helping cover up the inevitably colorful language.

Those series could be best of 6, where the teams listed have to win games to advance. The top 3 seeds in the play-in (PIT, EDM, CAR - who cares about conferences from this point forward) - can advance with only 3 wins.
The other 10 teams involved are really close in all metrics, so best of 5 or 7 is fine.

If I read it right, the winner of the flames / Winnipeg series would have to play the top seed no matter what. Even if twelve seed Chicago upsets in first round . Ouch

Gross, what a clown move by the league. Other leagues are continuing with the original ruleset but the NHL insists on having an asterisk next to this season. It’s a damn shame.

The link I found is a graphic of the playoff tree but the tree is not included in the story for some reason. The winner of Flames vs Winnipeg would play 1 seed St Louis. Edmonton/ Chicago winner would play 4 seed Dallas.

Oh this sucks. There should be re-seeding at the end of the first round (play-in or whatever)

NHL and their mouthpieces like Friedman have been itching for a 24 team playoffs for ages... this is their chance to force it on everybody and position it as something other than a cash grab. If a team in the 17-24 range wins the cup it would be pretty sad imo.
And moving forward you know we'll never get rid of it once owners get a taste of the cash from extra playoff dates. 82 game regular season that we're supposed to care about where the games carry very little meaning will hold a lot less interest for me.

Ugh...not a fan of this idea at all. Just pull the plug on the season already and be done with it.

Nope. Bring it on. I'm all in for whatever playoff they give us.
Don't get why hockey fans would say this("cancel the season already" people).
These aren’t normal times. Why are folks so pissed off that our sports aren’t going to be returning to normal? League is trying to make the best of a bad situation.
Hockey is always be better than no hockey.

I don’t get it either.
People would rather continue not being able to watch any hockey, as opposed to watching something that is a slightly different format than what they’re used to?
Why does it matter if it isn’t like before? Was before perfect anyways?
