We have them right where we want them. The Ducks will rise to the occasion and save their best effort for game 7. Gibson can't be horrible in 2 straight games and having home ice should give them some extra motivation.

I would agree except:
1. Said team was built through sheer incompetence, old boys love, fluke, and are owned by a sexual deviant and extortionist.
2. When I see a BOA, I doubt Oiler fans will be comming in humble saying "glad we won the cup, hope you guys do soon". Nope it will be all vitrol from the least humble fan base in the leuage.
Nope sorry, I will never cheer for them. Canadian team or not. Which has zero relivance seeing the players are not all from Canada, Alberta, or Edmonton.

This has been a very exciting series, and I am glad it is going down to the wire. Cannot wait until Tuesday for the deciding Game 7.

The only time I cheer for a Canadian (or American) hockey team other than Calgary are the Olympics, World Cup and ANY opponent of the Oilers or Canucks... anytime! Only exceptions, reluctantly and with great trepidation, is if it involves posturing for a playoff position or better playoff placement.
Why is this logic so confounding for what I hope is a very vocal minority?
It is called being a FANatic, loving your team and consequently having natural enemies whom you hate and the most hated usually have close geographic proximity.
Why are these such difficult concepts for some to comprehend?
WTF!

That's my biggest issue with the Oilers. Badly mismanaged for close to 10 years and then get gifted with a generational player. Teams should not be rewarded for running their franchises into the ground. McDavid should not be wearing an Oilers jersey!

I don't know..Sens are a win away from the Conference finals while you guys were swept first round.
I'm just trying to think of a reason why a team out west would want a small-market team out east from Canada to lose.

Like I said, I don't really care. But if the Senators do end up being the last team standing from Canada, I most certainly will react with vitriol to the faux nationalism that is likely to follow with dumb declarations about "Canada's team."

I don't know guys. Don't get the provincial rival thing anymore. Got it when I was a kid living in Calgary and the Oilers had Gretzky, Messier, Kurri, Semenko and they were the team to beat. Got it when Calgary and Edmonton were economic rivals. Granted I've lived away from Calgary for 20 years but I just don't give a damn about Edmonton. Have to go there for work from time to time and the city is about 20-30 years behind Calgary. I find the city sad. I can't get excited about the Oilers winning the Cup but I couldn't be bothered hating them or cheering for the Ducks who have been far more of a nemesis to the Flames in the past 10 years plus than the Oilers and are the least likeable team in hockey.

By that reasoning, why wouldn't fans just cheer for any non-rival? Jealousy?
The reasons seem to be simple:
1. Nobody cares about Ottawa. Ottawa are Canada's Minnesota. They're a good team that nobody will ever really care about. This is marginally better than being Winnipeg, which is Canada's Carolina... or Arizona... or some other place that people outside of that place forget about. Because nobody cares about Ottawa, the chances are high that they care about another (many other) team(s) more. You're a Toronto fan, the only logical rival Ottawa could have, and even you don't care enough to dislike them.
2. People reject being "told" who to cheer for. You'll have a fair number of Canadian fans that just cheer "Yay Canada!" and equal number of other Canadian fans that think that's stupid, so they'll happily do the opposite.

Man, when the Ducks lay a stinker, they sure do it in grand style. This game reminds me of the 8-3 shellacking they took at the hands of the Flames earlier in the season. No doubt they're ashamed and embarrassed by their performance tonight, and it's safe to say we'll see a much stronger effort from them in game 7.
Regardless though, I'm mentally preparing myself for an Oilers win, simply because the hockey gods are a bunch of d-bags and won't let us have nice things. What an arsehole of a season this has been. It really is the f'n worst.

Yeah that's annoying. I understand not cheering for a team, but to actively cheer for them to lose seems strange. (Sens, not Oilers)
Like you said, you don't really care and I get that. It's the people who want to see every Canadian team lose that I don't get.

Not saying you have to cheer for them. I'm not really cheering for them. If they win my reaction will be along the lines of "Neat. Good for them. Glad Phaneuf, Anderson, Karlsson, MacArthur got a cup."
But there is a difference between not caring and wanting them to lose.
Anyways I don't really care. Was just curious if there was a reason why several posters on here want all Canadian teams out.

I'm not too worried fellas, any cockiness that the Ducks have had after essentially dominating the Oilers after game 1 is gone, and I would expect that the work boots are going to be going on in a couple of nights.
I still expect the Ducks to end the Oilers.

This debate rears it's ugly head every year.
We must be the only country of sports fans where cheering for your biggest rivals is actually debatable.
I try to think of a parallel where a fellow Arsenal fan would cheer for Tottenham to win the Premier League and it's not even conceivable.
The day where I can cheer for the Oilers or Canucks is the day I'll stop watching sports.

I don't even think a true Lakers or Rangers fan would be caught rooting for the Clippers or Islanders, and those are same-city teams.

The Oilers were ready early.
Both teams have shown they can be good, both teams have been shaky at points. Game seven could turn out to be anything.
I am guessing that Gibson plays a great game, like he did after getting pulled game three against the Flames. Also, the refs will go back to loving the Ducks after grilling them tonight. Other than that who the hell knows.
