I want to see if the players give a damn the rest of the game. Whether they show some life out there or if they've given up.
If they mail it in - mental mistakes, no grit, don't finish the checks, etc - then that's a pretty damning indication this early in the season. They feel no urgency to play for their coach.

Organization has not done the things they wanted and needed to address except for improving the goaltending.
Powerplay and penalty kill still suck.
Team defense is very bad.
Not going to be successful when this is the case. Treliving may have ties to GG and who knows with Cameron, but how can this be acceptable to anyone in the Flames management team?

At this point, unless someone snaps gaudreau's stick in half with their slash, the refs really don't care.
It's unreal how little respect gaudreau gets from the refs.
