It's not hyperbole at all. The guy can look like sn Allstar some nights and be the worst player on the field on others. He brings zero consistency. He's completely dependent on a pitch he essentially has zero control over. He can't be relied upon when the chips are down.
Martin can't catch every night, but it would be nice to have someone other than Thole that can at least contribute and be called upon to pinch hit. Gibby is rumoured to not want Dickey back for that very reason.

1 out, Saunders the runner at 3B and Bautista drills a ball to the OF. Deep enough for Saunders to tag and score. Jones makes a diving catch, and Saunders left the bag early assuming Jones wouldn't catch it. Was too far off the bag to get back and tag in time.
