I thought Grant, Arnold and Poirier were noticeable up front.
Kyllington and Kulak were very good on D.
Ortio was good when called upon.

And that's 3 wins in a row for the Heat

Ortio has stopped 111 of the last 118 shots he's faced. Starting to warm up.

Nice that Poulin is back too. Should be a steady tandem, and will hopefully help to push Ortio to stay sharp.
IMO this Heat team is better than their record indicates. Hopefully they can go on an extended run here and get back into the playoff picture.

Not sure what to make of Grant either. He sure seems to have taken a step this year as an AHL guy, and looked decent in the NHL too.
Question is, is he a late bloomer who can be a solid NHL depth guy or is he just another Blair Jones?

When did Poulin get back? Simpson is still back-up.

Other question is why none of the more highly touted prospects are playing up to this level. This summer we convinced ourselves that Calgary's prospect pool was top notch

He's way up in the rafters. Nobody is near him.

I think it is safe to say Poulin was the backup last night.
Brandon Kisker @kiskerbc
Hey did you see a #39 out there for the @AHLHeat? That’s cause @kevinpoulin60 is back for the team. Backing up @JoniOrtio tonight vs. Bako!
The Heat have assigned Simpson to Adirondack.
Aaron Johnson was returned to the Heat after winning the Spengler Cup.

I honestly think that the locals had a real affinity for the Thunder. It might have been prudent to leave the name alone.

Yeah every place the Flames AHL team goes, they try to put their brand on the local population and it never works.

The Heat are drawing about the same sized crowds as the Thunder did last season.
Last year, the Thunder's average attendance was 4,621 per game. This year, the Heat's average is 4,752.

Well that's better than the average Abbotsford Heat attendance which was listed at 3007.

So far, the move to California seems to be working well for all the AHL teams. San Jose is the only team that hasn't seen a significant increase in attendance from last season (it's up, but only slightly)...
2. San Diego : 8,621 (Norfolk : 4,752, 19th)
5. Ontario : 7,943 (Manchester : 5,621, 15th)
15. Bakersfield : 5,279 (OKC : 3,262, 29th)
20. Stockton : 4,752 (Adirondack : 3,642, 26th)
23. San Jose : 3,881 (Worcester : 3,847, 22nd)

How's Hunter Smith been lately? Haven't heard much from him from this end.
