How is it possible that Dany Taylor and Barry Brust still haven't snagged a 2-way nhl with an NHL team?
Probably because AHL success doesn't neccassarily translate to NHL success, especially for goalies. Curtis mcElhinney is actually putting up solid AHL numbers again this year, for example.
Also, with only two spots per NHL team for goalies, teams are a lot less likely to take a flyer on an AHL standout.

A lot of teams may be really close to the 50 contract and don't want to cut it too close this season. I imagine that Taylor and Brust will get more interest in the offseason when teams have more flexibility.

F - David Eddy
F - Turner Elson
D - Brady Lamb
D - James Martin
Did Feaster and the Flames scouts drop the ball with these signings?
Was it pretty much 4 wasted contracts?
Elson eating up a contract playing in junior.
Lamb looking any good? Not much for stats that's for sure.
Eddy been battling injuries? Only played 6 games for the Heat, and 3 for the Grizzlies this year.
Martin battling injuries too?
What's the down low on these kids, from those who have seen them play?
I will say though that Brady Lamb just had his two best games as a pro this weekend against the Admirals. Next to Sieloff, I would say Lamb is the second most physical D prospect the Flames have. He deliberately goes for the hit and he's been working on his slap shot lately, which isn't too bad.
Martin is a big physical guy as well and I liked what I saw from him last season, but he couldn't get a break this season.
Can't really comment on Eddy, but he's essentially Bouma or Ruegsegger with MAYBE a tad more offensive upside.
Can't really comment on Elson at all.
Overall, yeah I'd say those signings weren't great, but if worse comes to worse Lamb and Eddy are done next season and Martin's done a season after that. Lamb is the most intriguing on that list, but he's got to show ALOT more if he wants to move beyond an average AHL d-man.

Seeing guys like Simmonds, Clarkson, and Clowe makes me hope that the Flames have lots of patience with Ferland and deVelop him properly. That's the type of potential the kid has and they are so valuable to have. Everyone covets this type of player. It's why Gillis gave up Hodgson for Kassian too.

Eddy is still under contract for next season. The only one off the books after this year is Lamb.

I guess the Heat aren't getting McCarthy back? going to Europe did I hear?
Going back to ZSC Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg Sounds like D-man Steve McCarthy has returned to play in Switzerland. He was on a PTO with the #Flames during training camp.
Turner Elson has the character potential. He could be a slow blooming NHLer. But he was just a recovery option after the Flames traded away their picks. If he pans out at all it's a bonus.
I wouldn't say they are wasted contracts. They still have some contract room and really, there aren't a lot of guys out there left to sign, and the flames are close to the cap. What else are they to do with those spots?
So I went back a few pages, but can someone more familiar with the team explain why Aliu and Nemisz each only have one point throughout 20+ games? I remember Neimsz being looked at for being a big leader this year.
Has his injury really affected him that much or is he just falling out as an NHLer?

And besides the top duo of Walter/Kolanos there isn't really any natural offense on the team. They are a defence first squad. And it shows.

Don't look now, but Brett Carson just scored his 3rd goal of the season. That's three goals in three games. Who needs Baertschi anyways?
Nice to have that big right handed shot on the point though.
Heat lead 2-1 after the first period versus Charlotte. This weekend is going to be a huge litmus test for the Heat. If they can knock off the top team in the AHL (Charlotte), it'll be HUGE for their confidence. Not only that, but they're on a four game winning streak. Plus they got their leading goal scorer back in Horak.
Things are looking up for the Heat.
EDIT - Nemisz with an assist on Sylvester's goal. Aliu with an assist on Carson's goal. Nice to see those two guys in particular get a point.
Also, Matczak has an assist in this game already. He now has 5 points in his last 5 games. Brodie who?
EDIT 2 - My God, things just keep happening. Sylvester with a huge game so far. He's got a goal and two assists in this game so far. Aliu just a goal and now has two points this game.
EDIT 3 - Nevermind, the goal was taken away from Aliu and given to Olson for his 5th of the year.
EDIT 4 - Walter just scored a PP goal! 4-1 for the Heat midway through the game.
