“I thought it went well,” Jankowski said. “I knew it was going to be a big jump from where I played last year. I know it was going to be a faster pace and lot of bigger, stronger guys.
“This year, I played mostly wing, just to kind of ease my way into it because centre has a lot more responsibilities. I think the plan is to play centre next year. Learning a new position is never a bad thing, it just adds more versatility.”
Right now, it’s more about what the lanky teen does off the ice than what he does on it.
“I definitely spent a lot of time in the weight-room,” Jankowski said. “I know that’s the one thing I really need to work on. I’m probably going to be staying down in Providence for two months in the summer, working out with the strength coach everyday.”

Talked to Craig Button the other day. Confident that Jankowski is going to be a player in this league, as well as Gaudreau. It's just going to be years before we see them hit their potential.
So in the past couple of days we've had one CPer hear from Pierre McGuire that the Jankowski pick was a big mistake and another hear from Craig Button that Jankowski will be a player.

Craig was, as far as I could tell, the only media guy who was championing Jankowski in the lead-up to the draft. He had him going mid-first round, so there's no doubt he thinks he'll be a player. I hope he's correct!

yeah he had Jankowski at 14 - the pick we owned. I think it's safe to say that Craig and Tod are talking

I think I'd take Craig's opinion over Pierre McGuire's if for no other reason than I think Button sees these young guys play more than McGuire does. I'm guessing Pierre never saw Jankowski play last year.

True, but Pierre is quite connected with team scouts
I haven't heard anyone (expert or not) say Jankowski had a bad or disappointing season. Pretty much "he had a decent season and is on track". If that's the case then it's just differing opinion about his ceiling which is pretty much crystal all gazing
Jankowski is still 175lbs after a year of being drafted is he one of these kids with high metabolism and just can't gain weight. If he was lifting you would think he would have gained at least some weight i mean the guy is 6'2.
First year 34 GP and 18 pts looks like he was 4th on the team for points.

he was at 175 at the start of the season, I think. Eliteprospects and ESPN both have him at 183 right now. When he was drafted, they had him at 168 on NHL.com ... so if he indeed is in the 180-185 range right now, that's good progress in my book.

The ultimate question is on track for what? I can't say I saw him play but he didn't exactly light it up or dominate against what is substandard talent compared to the CHL. I'm not saying he's a bust or anything but if he can't dominate at that level I have a hard time believing that he's going to be a difference maker in the NHL. Time will tell but he's going to have to take a big step next season.

Adding 15 pounds of muscle in a year is about all you can ask for. If he is another 3 years away he should easily be 200+ by the time he goes pro.
