Borucki is an interesting player. He had an injury filled year, got back, had a growth spurt and is now 6'4" and then injured his arm requiring Tommy John. He decided to rehab it instead and made a couple starts pain free right before the draft and touches 92 as an 18 year old. He has similar upside as Smoral, Stillson etc.
Good job by our scouts to get him, and an even better job by AA to get him under contract (especially when he said that there was a 99% chance he would go to school)

Another tough loss for the Jays with another pitcher down. Losing Perez for the season is another huge blow to an already depleted pitching staff.
Most of the rest of the pitchers need to step it up.

AA is in a tough spot, the Jays have been doing a tremendous job keeping their head above water with their awful pitching lately. If even Ricky and Alvarez were pitching like they can they'd be in decent shape.
I'd hate to trade away decent prospects just to try and salvage an already (likely) lost season but you have to show something to your offensive leaders like Bautista or you'll lose the trust and momentum that's been gained over the last year. A trade for younger or controllable players, like the Rasmus trade last year, may be the only way to get a win win...but that's easier said than done.

Agreed - I think AA is in buy mode, but I don't think whatever he acquires will be enough to put the club into the playoffs. Sure they have done a great job at staying competitive with a depleted rotation, but the offense isn't going to carry them for another month and a half when Morrow is scheduled to be back.
I think we will see AA make a splash, and it will look like it is to try and salvage the season - but the player will be controllable past this season, and I wonder if the move won't be more geared for next year, while giving the perception that we are in "win this year" mode. Kinda a win-win if you ask me - satisfies the fans/players that we are trying to win, but also puts the club in great shape for next season when we start getting some of our staff back from Tommy John.

Jays re-sign Encarnacion to a 3 year 27 million dollar contract. That is so awesome

Yes indeed.
With Bautista, Encarnacion, Lawrie & Rasmus, the Jays have a formidable core of players that can matchup with anyone.
Now go get some pitching AA, I'll take Matt Garza please.

That's good news. Even his D at first has been good. Good move for the Jays.

Now we only need a LF and a DH. We can address 2B by using Hech (either at 2B or at SS and moving Yunel over)
Snider might get called up to see if he can fill LF long term. So basically just a DH. Sign Ortiz or another Frank Thomas type bat from a few years ago and then put all your efforts at getting a pair of quality starters and another impact reliever and we're set

You could always see if you could target a younger cheaper option like Billy Butler to use as a DH. I can't ever see Ortiz leaving the Red Sox.

Yes you're likely right, however he was pretty peeved about the Red Sox unwillingness to offer him a two year contract after giving Lackey and Crawford boatloads of cash and long term deals.
Him and Bautista seem to get along as well. So it's possible!!

Ortiz slammed Boston pretty hard this season and that clubhouse is just a mess. I think he really enjoys being able to be himself and his big personality. I don't think the Jays or AA is the type of guy to plan to go after someone who could so easily just stay with Boston.

I'm not hoping for Ortiz specifically, more just another good bat of a similar caliber as Lawrie/Rasmus/EE/Bau

BLUE JAYS CLOSER SANTOS NEEDS SEASON-ENDING SHOULDER SURGERY
TORONTO -- Toronto Blue Jays closer Sergio Santos is being shut down for the season after it was found he needs shoulder surgery.
Santos felt discomfort in his shoulder as the intensity of his effort increased during a throwing session Saturday.
Blue Jays manager John Farrell says he hopes the 29-year-old right-hander will return to the team in time for spring training next season.
Santos was expected to bring a steady presence to the closer role after being acquired in a trade with the Chicago White Sox in December.
But he made just six appearances in April and had only four saves before being put on the disabled list following a game in Kansas City.
Farrell says the team doesn't believe Santos was injured when they acquired him
