He clearly has an anti nuke stance which could sway his opinion of the situation.

Nuclear armament and nuclear power are 2 completely different things though. I am anti-nuclear armament but am all for nuclear power.
The only thing that wiki page says is that he had concerns about nuclear weapons, global warming, nuclear power and the misuse of science.
I can't find anything that he has an anti-nuclear power bias, although I only did a quick Google search.

Actually did you see the part about the wave patterns of the earthquake? Then he went to talk about the wind which yeah you don't want radiation blowing into Tokyo.

Kaku has publicly stated his concerns over matters including the human cause of global warming, nuclear armament, nuclear power and the general misuse of science.[6] He was critical of the Cassini-Huygens space probe because of the 72 pounds of plutonium contained in the craft for use by its radioisotope thermoelectric generator.

I still don't see how that makes him anti-nuclear power. He was more concerned about sending a large quantity of plutonium on a missile through the planet's atmosphere. If it had exploded in the Earth's atmosphere, that would have been really bad. That isn't really at all the same as being against stationary nuclear power plants. Maybe he is, I just don't see it anywhere.

I saw that, but it is pretty vague to try and make any inference on him being anti-nuclear power. It only says that he has "concerns" about nuclear power. I have "concerns" about the Flames, but I am not "anti-Flames".

There are 100% valid concerns about Nuclear Power (the lack of permanent waste storage not being solved yet comes to mind). Then again, there are concerns with almost all types of Power generation. I have no problems with someone being concerned with that, but it's the people who think Japan shouldn't have a single nuclear plant that annoy me.

Even in current nuclear plants fuels 95% of the fuel can be recycled (not every country does it but France does and their waste level is low).and new designs greatly diminish all wastes. A good chunk of the problems right now stem from decommissioning of power reactors and decommisioning of plutonium producing reactors from the various weapons programs. As with everything, as the years go by we learn a lot going forward waste amounts will become less of a concern.

I agree with you, although no permanent solution is available yet, and the subject has been around for some time. I like nuclear power and hope to see more of it (CANDU reactors seem to be the safest, but the most expensive), but obviously public fear is going to be a deterrant for some time. I do find it strange how after all these years they still have no permanent solution for the excess waste.

drill a hole a few thousand feet deep on the tip of a subducting tectonic plate that is in the middle of nowhere and it will disappear in a few million years. Biggest danger being superheated or pressurized nuclear waste exploding, can it? I don't know.

Like, say, near Carlsbad, New Mexico?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waste_I...on_Pilot_Plant
I'm touring this place on April 15th as part of the ANS conference on High Level Radioactive Waste Management.
To your question, there are EXTREMELY strict guidelines on the waste forms that get put into WIPP. These guidelines take into account generation of pressure and the like.

I've always wondered why they don't put most of the waste into deep mines and then let it 'meltdown' thus disapating the radioactivity as soon as possible.
