And please don't say they charged you the $100 for that?

Yeah I picked up a STB at Bestbuy for $99 (regularly $150)...even beat costco which I think was $129.

Anyways, they're sending a tech out...kind of ridiculous if they're gonna sell that stuff at stores, but maybe its just for new activations/customers?

I tried getting a code out of them too. I would even be willing to pay them for a fricken code! but they insist on sending a tech, I think its either $100 or $150 total for activating with the tech. Plus xbox gold. Any techs manna M$G me about a code? lol

the reason for the tech is that there may be some wiring that is needed. no sense on plugging in a set top box and have pooey wiring (unless youve removed it all) and it not work correctly. Cat5 is preferred but good coax with compression fittings will work best. none of this radio shack crimp on connectors.

So what was the recent firmware update about? My PVR is still laggy as hell trying to access the channel guide and recorded tv shows.

So I got a letter saying everyone who uses an XBOX for Optik TV needs to be on XBOX Live Gold? This is ######ed. Why should I have to pay $5 more per month for what is already a terrible service. Even if I leave my XBOX on all day for the TV it is still laggy and garbage. I will probably be switching to Bell and Shaw again after I am done with this experiment.

I had a great first quarter with it as it was blazing fast, but now it is just a slow pile of crap.

Same story here, and from everyone else. Telus is going to lose half their customers within the next yr or 2 if they don't get their head out of their ass. That first firmware version was awesome! It not a smartphone or pc, its a ####ing tv and thats all it needs to do is show channels and the guide, nothing else! The contracts are coming up soon for all the ppl that signed up when it first came out. My advice to telus: go backwards and dust off that original firmware and send that out until a working version is ready. Sitting around waiting for 5-10 seconds when I push forward, reverse, volume, etc is so frustrating I want to throw the remote, its getting worse and worse. Then all of a sudden all the key presses burst out together all at once and make whatever I was watching go haywire. Such a joke in 2012!

this was me a few months ago, haven't regretted switching back to Shaw one bit. funnily enough the remote delays that i had with Shaw before switching (they were never as bad as the Telus delays though) are gone. the way the HD channel package are setup are so much better as well

The volume control went wonky on all my TV's(3) sometime last week. No idea what triggered this but really annoying. Changed batteries on one remote but no change. Did Telus do something to their service that could cause this?

Question for the techs out there:

Is there a way I can place my actiontec into bridge mode?

I am trying to connect an Aruba RAP for work at my home, and something in the router is blocking it; I figure if I go into bridge mode with the router it should work fine after that.

Nope there isn't. Telus LOCKS down the router, kinda sucks.

(they use QOS for optik tv and don't want people interfering with that either)

Soooo... I'm going to need to choose a Cable/Internet provider soon.

I suppose, after reading the tail end of this thread, that avoiding Telus Optik is step 1 in narrowing down my options?

Never heard of this happening, but this may help.

I am experiencing this issue on 3 of my TV's as well. I haven't checked to see if I received the new firmware yet.

I am quite happy with Optik. I changed from Bell 18 months ago and like both the internet and tv package that they provide.

I haven't used Bell but after reading this thread and threads like it and having Shaw and Telus Optik I would say that all options are equally awful and all 3 do a bad job in terms of performance, customer service and perks.

I have had Telus Optik for the past 3-4 months and haven't had any more troubles with it than I did with Shaw. There are some things better with Telus and some things that were better with Shaw.

Likely whichever way you go you are going to be frustrated at some point with the choice because they are all weak companies overall.

Depends what you value most. The best internet? More HD Channels? Better picture quality? Multiple HD feeds at once? PVR that plays on more than one TV? Non-buggy software? Bundled savings? Cheapest service? Good Customer Service? Fast response times of customer service?

All 3 current providers have good points and bad, so your answers to those questions would be important in determining what suggestion would make the most sense for you.
