This extended rain/cooling period actually has me excited to go to Toronto next week. That's not right, Michael...

Over 400 minor soccer games rescheduled or cancelled already this season. This is beyond 'greening things up.' Sucks for anyone who has kids or likes to do stuff outside.

Well. To hell with those people!
Seriously, as someone who was a soccer coach, this is going to be an unmitigated re-scheduling nightmare. I do NOT miss those days.

I love those naps when you hear the rain pounding on the roof, and you realize you are not missing a thing.

I guess that is a positive from all this, kids (and parents) saved from being bored by soccer

Aren’t most leagues done before July? Children out of school and families on vacation.

Apparently not. The Calgary Minor Soccer Association has cancelled hundreds of games this summer, including games in July into this week.
https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio...outdoor-sports
Also, summer camps are a thing. My kids work at a bike camp, and they’ve had lots of cancellations and time spent doing activities inside instead of biking.
We’re not really pretending most people like days on end of rain in the summer, are we? It’s gotta just be an oddball CP thing.
Calgary's bummer summer weather still dampening spirits this week

You can go out in the rain, but I think the issue is that we had so many thunderstorms and hail scenarios this summer that they had no choice but to cancel for precautionary reasons.
Playing in the rain is way more fun IMO. But I wouldn't want to be one of the tallest things on an open field for a thunderstorm warning though.

From the CMSA standpoint, I volunteered as a Coach for a decade, so, been there, done that, got the t-shirt. So I do sympathize with them. Re-scheduling that many games is nigh on impossible.
And there are a lot of moving pieces, we cant just forget about the type of grass we largely have here in Calgary on soccer fields. Just because it isnt raining 'right now' doesnt mean that the field isn't waterlogged or whoever manages that field is going to make it available.
You play a few games on a soggy field and you tear the hell out of it and these guys arent 'Premier League Groundskeepers' or anything, they try but if you tear the hell out of a field, you've got a huge backlog of games and you just keep going and going the field never has time to recover.
At least the guy in the interview was honest. A lot of those games are not going to get played. But that has implications for fees, Provincials, various tournaments, there is a knock-on effect.

This is the thing, 'people' can go out in the rain all they want. When its kids sports though there are a lot more moving pieces.
I loved playing Soccer in the rain, sleet or snow! Way more fun! But that being said, the people who manage and maintain those fields are not going to be nearly as keen.
And...parents tend to hate it.
At least the kids are running around, having fun, staying warm and generally having a blast with their friends and teammates.
All while mom is sitting in a fold up chair in the wind and rain huddling in a blanket and working through her third coffee and Kahlua and wondering if her little Jimmy is going to come home with a Cold or the Black Plague.
Parents are never any fun.

If you want to live extra dangerously, go ahead and brave swinging a metal stick around in a thunderstorm.
