David Lean was an epic filmmaker who was of an entirely different era of filmmaking, and Lawrence of Arabia is his magnum opus, but check out Bridge on the River Kwai or Dr. Zhivago as well.
I actually just picked up Dr.Zhivago on Blu ray, wasn't aware it was the same director , now I'm even more excited to watch it.
Watched Big Trouble in Little China for the first time in about 30 years.
god what a piece of crap movie.
I think it was great at the time, and man has it aged horribly.
It's not even so bad it's good. Just a bad, bad, movie.
This is my problem with people trying to get me to watch old 80s movies I missed out on growing up they have great nostalgia for. For silly/fun action movies anyway, if you watch it for the first time as a full grown adult without any nostalgia attached, for the most part they're just not very good.
But you've motivated me to watch that movie again, used to love it.

let us know what you think.
Even the Kurt Russell character is so unlikeable. he's just playing a boorish truck driver, who actually doesn't do very much of the hero stuff. He just comes along for the ride, being crass and watching the Dennis Dun character do the heavy lifting.

That's the point of russels character though, tough guy gets in waaaaaay over his head and makes it out alive.
Too bad you hated it, but it's a gold standard for comedy horror.

really? I always thought it was supposed to be an action comedy.
but a gold standard for a comedy horror film? I get their attempts at comedy, which I suppose the bumbling "hero" is a part of, but there was no horror in the movie. First I ever heard of it being in the horror genre.
It was a flop and then perhaps a cult favorite, but it should now be considered a dated mess. I don't think a fat joint and a six pack of beer could make it a good bad movie to watch.

With Big Trouble in Little China, I'm going to enforce my Superman IV Statute and leave those good memories in the past where they belong, undisturbed, unmolested, and pure of heart.
Superman IV was amazing when I was like seven. It cannot be so again after you've seen it as an adult. That's why the law was created.

Yeah it's horror. The main villain is a Lich, he has all sorts of hellish creatures from the underworld , a beholder, demons etc.
I get the dislike for the movie, it's a campy 80s John Carpenter flick, can't be too hard on it. Dude was pumping out movies like Stephen King was pumping out books. But yes, comedy horror.

Stick to the Fast and Furious franchise, anything else just isn't for you.
Haha, what a dooshnoozle of a comment. Martin fricken Scorsese is too posh for me? He's, like, one of the biggest directors in Hollywood, you weirdo. This is hardly some art-house piece. It only has some of the biggest actors in the history of movies, too.

I mean...
Most of your posts in this thread are about how "boring" movies are, after all. Like your recent review of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny complained it was "boring AF" and "the main chick wasn't hot enough". You're not exactly setting yourself up as a tolerating anything that is "too posh for you"...

Yeah, that probably indicates I'm not a basic bitch who just likes every movie, though. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was boring AF. There was even a running across the top of a train scene, which is unacceptable in 2023. Way too cliché and predictable. I mean, if you like that stuff then go nuts, but there are people who appreciate more discerning reviews.
Annnd, have you seen the new 3.25-hour Scorsese film? It is boring with boring characters and a boring story.

There is a a running across the top of the train scene in Killers of the Flower Moon? I have been reluctant to watch because it kinda looked like a climate change is bad theme.
