I’m still a Tre believer and prefer they’d keep him. I think a lot of issues are mandate related. However, I also think he’s gone, and I have zero confidence they get the next hire right. Don’t cheap out! Very important year coming up with Hanifin, Lindholm, contract situations.

"Hand picked"??? He did the best he could with the hand he was dealt. Was he supposed to have psychic powers that let him know that Markstrom would fall off a cliff or that Kylington would disappear right before the season? Did ANYONE on planet Earth see Huby's production getting cut in half vs last year? Sorry but there's not a GM out there who would have done better with the situation the Flames were handed when Johnny & Chucky walked out the door.

I've been shoulder to shoulder with Ashasx's thoughts on this from the beginning and maybe even ahead, I called for Trelivings head when he signed chucky to that stupid 3 year walk away deal, I'm not Nostradamus but I knew it would be a disaster for this team.

There was no cap space for a long term AAV. A bridge made sense, and gave Tkachuk the guaranteed 9 m qualifier, which he could view as a gesture of good faith

Do we even know if Tre wants to stay?
He might want a change of scenery.

I think Tre has done a good job assembling this team. I think the team has plenty of depth and skill. I think his choices of coaches has been poor though. I don't know if he or Edwards hired Sutter but it is just a terrible fit. It is like building a high performance endurance race car and then hiring an old safety driving instructor to pilot it. You are not winning anything with that combo. Sutter is trying to play big boy North/South hockey with a roster built for East/West skill hockey.

Rebuild needs to happen.
Treliving or not, the direction of the organization needs a seismic change.
If you don't believe in rebuilding as an organization, then you're nothing but a child. Patience is a virtue, and it takes time to build a Championship team.

The time for a rebuild was last summer, the Flames have a huge chunk of their cap tied up in long term veteran contracts now. What you see is what you get for the next few years at least.

I think Treliving is gone. His plan kind of went out the window when he couldn’t get Gaudreau and Tkachuk signed. The 2 guys he was prepared to build around did what many thought they were going to do for their third contracts and bolt to the States. His moves from there on out were reactionary and he got a ton of credit for it.
I think how he handled last offseason as well as the Bill Peters situation put him in a good spot to get another job quickly. I am already speculating he will go to Pittsburgh when Burke fires Hextall at the end of the year. If Toronto loses in round 1 is there a chance he ends up there? TSN and SN were gushing over the summer of Brad last year and while the Flames fell short I think Sutter will take most of the heat in the media.
At the end of the day the team is not in a great position. They have to make some decisions on key players who have 1 year left on their deals. They have expensive older players and after next year no real sweetheart deals left except Andersson

Kylington is one thing but lets face facts he's still just a 3-6 Dman that wouldn't likely have made a difference this season, Johnny & Chucky is another story, Johnny could have been signed to an extension before he had a 115pt season and Chucky never should have been signed to that silly walk away contract.
I realize this isn't a popular sediment in here but Treliving has been a disaster for this franchise, his FA signings, his coaching picks and his inability to lock up his best players he needs to go co-star with his dad for reality TV on Dragons Den, I hope to say I wish you the best Brad very soon.

One year remaining:
Tanev, Lindholm, Hanifin, Toffoli, Zadorov, Backlund, Dube
Two years remaining:
Mangiapane
Three years remaining:
Markstrom, Andersson
Next year is a massive change for the team.
Chicago embarked on a rebuild in Year 1 of Seth Jones' 8 year extension. Huberdeau, Weegar, and Kadri's deals should have very little to do with whether the team rebuilds or not - as they aren't good enough to carry a team.

I'm guessing after the next game Flames will announce BT is not coming back and appoint someone else. Probably Sutter with help from Connie.

Who wouldn’t?
Seriously, I bet he gets snapped up. Maybe as a POHO somewhere. Or a GM under a current GM who is elevated to POHO.

I do think failing to capitalize on the value of Toffoli (and to a lesser extent Lindholm) at the TDL was a massive L for this organization.
But again, any move to trade those players for futures is likely blocked by ownership.
Nothing matters. Time is a flat circle

The handling of Kylington this season has to get him or the franchise some karma.
Only way IMO he leaves is on his own and would be because if the Leafs falter, they will fire Dubas and if they’d offer it to Treliving (via the appropriate permissions).
This roster had only a few guys with career years, compared to last.
The effort was there most nights, but some average or below average goaltending, an inordinate number of posts, all of which could’ve changed some of the tight games into easy wins, including all those overtime losses, and it seems that the perfect storm went against them this year. Will be a broken record but lose “only” 14 overtime or shootout games, which would be still 2nd worst in the league , and not 17, and they are in the playoffs.
Tough to blame Treliving for that, the roster was good but totally underperformed results wise.

100% agree.
I seriously doubt he's out of work long if he's not renewed.
