I think Trev should have considered the type of players his coach likes before making a trade and locking in extensions. Of course he likely had very few options but trading for run and gun type players was perhaps not wise.

You know Brad doesn’t control the players from the press box, right? These are independent sentient human beings, you know this, right?

How can anyone blame treliving for this mess?
Who knew that huberdeau was the biggest fraud 100+ point player in the entire league??
I'd rather clean house and have treliving start over and rebuild this garbage than to find a new gm/architect altogether at this point.
This isn't on the gm.

I’ve said it before, some people need a hell of a lot more patience. There was a huge overhaul at the top of our lineup, and players who play big minutes in important situations have been replaced with others from an entirely different situation, and a different style and system. It’s going to take half the season to get everything together and see what we’ve actually got.

This thread is gonna get bumped after every bad game huh? With that being said, Brad’s contract is up and there hasn’t been any rumors of him getting an extension so he might be gone at the end of the year

This team has always been built for the playoffs. It's a real shame they've played that much below their capability but perhaps this is just the stretch they're in. One would think they'd have to regress to their potential at some point. It is concerning though. Markstrom has been terrible as has Huberdeau. Anyway, we'll see in May where we are but I'm trying not to think too hard about the terrible start as on paper they should be better. Treliving traded well but those long term deals were bound to bite. Hated it from the start.

Without the extensions, Trev likely needed to trade them, as getting one year rentals wasn’t the answer.
Assuming the Flames were not rebuilding, there was little choice in the direction Treliving took.
Plus, likely the ownership gave him the direction to take.

I think Tre has given Sutter a very nice roster. It is unsettling when hubby and weager have both said that flames play a much slower game. Sutter made a comment 2 weeks ago that this team needs to dump and chase and out grit to win. IMO Sutter still thinks this is a 3-2 league. I am not so sure of that. That said Sutter has proven me wrong many times.

Yeah I think the coach is the problem right now, not the roster or anything the GM has done. He's trying to make them playa dated style of hockey and players aren't buying in. They don't have a cheat code line like last season where they could rely on timely goals from an elite 1st line. They collectively need to play faster as a group with the top three lines looking to generate offense. They aren't even playing good defense so it's the worst of both worlds right now.

Fully agreed! The cup winning Kings teams weren't regular season juggernauts either.

Last night wasn't coaching at all. Strange post game to go after coaching when you have a team over extend offensively all night and give up ten bell chances.
Literally nothing in that would come from a coach ... quite the opposite.
And the Flames aren't aiming to play slow or told to play slow. That was one of Sutter's biggest complaints when he took over the team ... pace of play.
Sutter will have a shelf life, hoping it's not now, but a game like that is 100% on the players, and not the coach, and certainly not Treliving like the dweeb who bumped this asserted.

My post wasn’t Bout last nights game. It was what I have been seeing for the last couple weeks with quotes from players and coaches over the last 2 weeks. In the last week or so the only time the team looks alright is on the PP

The GM isn't at fault but coaching is an issue and has been since training camp.
If that was the team extending themselves offensively last night we have major issues as they could hardly generate anything against the worst defensive team in the NHL.
