I think that is the thing that bothers me the most about the Oilers. They talk as if their franchise actually accomplished something by doing this. It's like someone being born into money and then bragging about how much money they have while never have actually earned it.

Entitled and smug.
The two words the best describe the Oilers, the media that covers them, and a lot of their fans.
Which is stunning given the historic levels of failure they reached.

I can't believe how they are still talking about reaching the conference finals two seasons ago. Every year four teams make the conference finals. Every single year and it means nothing if you don't win the cup. Hell the Islanders made back to back conference finals in 2020, 2021. You don't see their fans and meda parading today about those seasons. Nobody cares except Oilers fans and media.

Yup. Ask them if, say Winnipeg made the conference finals recently. Or the Sharks. Hell, they probably couldn't tell you who TB beat for the cup in 2020.

They also got swept, so it's not like it was a close call to make it to the finals.
They have beat the Flames and the Kings.
Flames rarely step up in the playoffs.
Kings are a young team with some key vets that are a borderline playoff team. The Kings also seem to have key injuries in both series (Doughty, Arvidsson, Fiala)
They also beat the Sharks who were a pretty good team in 16/17
They have yet to beat a team that anyone is picking as a contender.

The Kings also beat them handily in their series when they played a decent game. Hell, IMO the Flames looked like the superior team when they played a smart game and didn't panic as well.

Doesn't sound so confident.

The Kings could have won either series and they were missing top dmen or leading scorers in each series.
Flames just blew 3 goal leads on a nightly basis and got bad goaltending in the series.
That's their 3 big series wins.
Avs, Knights and Ducks are the best teams they have played. Any time they play a team that has top end players, that team usually has much better depth too and they lose.

I think you should print that and put it on the fridge and look at it again at the end of the season when he's -4 +/-

Lol, what a delusional statement. McDavid’s so-called defensive game is one of the laziest I’ve ever seen. If the puck isn’t in the offensive zone, the guy clearly just doesn’t give a s***. Same goes for Draisaitl. All that matters to those two clowns are McPoints and scoring titles.

It's about now that the usual coterie of Oilers fabulists weigh in with their onanistic prognostications of impending hockey glory.

Spector the clown with his first of many oilers tire-pumping articles on sportsnet today. Something about oilers are ‘mature’ and in their ‘prime’. The insecurity of that media and the need to constantly praise makes me laugh every year. You don’t see any other media in the nhl writing this crap.

I mean. This McDavid quote. It's unbelievable. So glad he has been running their training camp the last couple weeks.
Any captain who's never one #### and whose last club championship was during esso minor hockey week (loser bracket probably)... anyone in that situation would and should say he's gotta be better. You know, don't appear satisfied, set an example for the squad that everyone's gotta take responsibility.
Instead he says, na, I've been good. Next question.
I think he'll go down as the best player and worst leader the game has seen in decades.
