I agree they are idiots.
Doesn't help buddy that has been injured.
Renters insurance is crazy cheap, or it was when I was a renter 1000 years ago.

again, I think you are wrong.
There aren't as many people buying renters insurance as some think

Contrary to popular belief, the padding in your shorts, not the padding on your saddle, is what makes the ride comfortable. A spandex bike jersey has pockets in the back for my phone, wallet, food, and tools. It has nothing to do with trying to set a land speed record. Cyclists, should not be on sidewalks. I say this as a cyclist. Sidewalks are where people walk. It's in the name. They are not wide enough to have bikes going multiple ways on them. People walk their dogs, have small children, walk beside each other, have strollers, carry groceries, etc. A pedestrian should not have to move out of the way on a sidewalk for a bike coming up behind them. That is why cyclists go on roads. Whether they are going 17 km/hr or 40 km/hr.
For the argument coming up that drivers are going too fast and don't want to be inconvenienced by cyclists going to slow, it's rich to suggest in a condescending way that cyclists don't want to be inconvenienced by a pedestrian. This is why separated infrastructure aids drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
As for sliver, he's doing his usual shtick. He will come back saying it's not a shtick, but he's been around long enough we all know it. If that helps him get a little excited when he rides his rascal, then good for him.

That's what I do, but I also wear a spandex jersey pretty often. More comfortable, and pockets. Plus I've got so many free ones over the years, it's basically endless cycling attire, and I'm cheap.

Considering the cost of rent these days? I dont doubt it.
Add to that multiple tenants to make the costs work out?

Bikes are not cars, nor are they pedestrians. Bikes are their own thing...and sharing with cars or pedestrians just leads to trouble because all 3 of them travel at different speeds. In the same way that driving fast on the highway is safe as long as everyone is generally travelling at the same speed...but as soon as you introduce someone going much quicker or much slower, it turns into a dangerous situation. Mixing bikes and cars is stupid and dangerous, as the typical speed disparity is just too big. Mixing bikes with pedestrians is stupid too, but at least the speed disparity isn't quite as lethal.
We need more dedicated, physically separated (not just painted) bike lanes in any scenario where we're trying to encourage biking as a transportation alternative. When that's not possible, we should push bikes to ride in side streets...I find it insane to put painted bike lanes onto arterial roads that act as major traffic corridors, and pretend that they will get along. Never gonna happen.

this road is in my neighbourhood....
sridge by bc-chris, on Flickr
on the far left - sidewalk
in the middle - bike lane
on the right - road for cars
...only problem is that the spandex cyclists can't figure this out and continue to ride on a super narrow road.... and why is it narrow??? becuz space was needed for a separated bike lane!
i will say that the guys biking in board shorts and people on mountain bikes have figured out the bike lane.... but there's just something about that spandex group
**oh... and google needs to come back to kelowna when the skies aren't filled with forest fire smoke! ha!

It looks like Kelowna has a pathway speed limit of 15km/h. Probably why people ride on the roads(15km/h is painfully slow). Stupid stuff like that is the reason why good things fail.

20 is pretty slow. I don’t mean too slow for the pathway, but I can see why you’d elect to use the road cause 20 is like what kids or people going uphill would do.

You're joking right? Most people can't do 10 going up a hill.

He might be in training for the Tour de France.
20km/h is pretty average in my experience. I ride from my house to the office and it is right around 10km and it takes my just under 30 minutes but that is downhill/flat and a couple stop lights.

Bike rage videos are even more entertaining than road rage videos. Some lance armstrong wannabe absolutely losing his mind because another cyclist is going too slow for them always makes me laugh

It's not that urban designers, safety and transportation experts, engineers, and the majority of society are correct as much as it is that Sliver and Mr.Coffee are. If we start a new movement, I'm sure we can get a couple others on our side too.
Bikes should be on sidewalks.

I dunno. I have been going along at 20kph ob my mountain bike and been passed by lots of people on their road bikes.
20kph on a downhill seems like you’re maybe braking?

They really need to twin pathways and up the speed limit to 30 during commuting hours. 20 on flat is pretty casual with any kind of a hybrid. That’s not even considering the ebike explosion where everyone does 32.

All I could find on it was this article:
https://www.kelownadailycourier.ca/l...368b72505.html
Not sure if it is just that one specific section though.
But if I had gotten a speeding ticket on that section of pathway, I'd be taking the road, too. Ridiculous speed limits are a detriment to pathways.
