But I know absolutely nothing about flooding or how to interpret the data relative to what flood levels would look like.

Also the new Springbank reservoir is operational now so that should help control river flow through Calgary and help to prevent flooding conditions.

It's also only about 24-36 hours of rain, wasn't 2013 several days? And there is far less snow in the mountains. The high river levels this week don't mean a lot because there is a very good chance the levels were higher from dam managers reducing their storage load in anticipation of this rain. It was a pro-active high river level, not a natural one.

When I looked at the data and how much the river flow increased a couple days ago when there was no rain I thought that might be it. The elbow seemed unnaturally high a couple days ago.

Seems like it's pretty much done now, didn't last as long as they were originally predicting. But as mentioned, that's a good thing at this point.

That was really disappointing. I thought it would last longer. Wasn't nearly enough volume.

Based on airport measurements, the last two days were still the wettest since 2013 with 61 mm.

The 2005 flood (June 18 that year) was about 700 m3/s. So it might not take too much for decent damage potential.
But a graph on here seems to show that most years we get around 250 or higher at some point, which seems a little surprising

Lots of fireworks in the inner city near Elbow Park.
What’s the occasion?

I was just coming here to ask the same question. I went outside for a walk and I was hearing a steady stream of explosions.

It's weird that communities are doing them early. I saw that Dalhousie has theirs today.

There's an app called Flapjack Finder. No idea if it's any good or not.
