I would agree that Westbrook is not looking amazing, but I cant say I am disappointed either. At least there is a ton of glass windows going up, it might be a boring design but with the big windows at least it has the potential to be a bright space, that will be nice in the winter months. And I sure hope they are putting glass on over top of the south entrance to make use of the sunlight.... I don't think I will be fan of the copper at this location.
The North side of Sunlta station is designed so poorly because the lack of windows. If the West Calgary redevelopment ever gathers steam they will regret that decision. I cant wait for the day that I don't have to drive by a lot full of used cars on bowtrail everyday.
Looks like there must be problems arising from the testing. From the City of Calgary Website:
Eastbound Bow Trail west of 26 Street SW
Details | Directions
7 AM May 19 to 10 PM May 21
The two right lanes are closed for utility work.
There are about 6 deep holes in Bow Trail at or near the 26th street station where they are working on the utilities right now. Not sure how they could have it all done for Tuesday morning rush.
Anyone interested in Transit, I'd recommend attending this event this weekend. It's a customer to customer engagement as part of the RouteAhead Strategic Plan for Transit. The Mayor will be participating (a good chance to meet and talk about transit directly with him) and is being hosted by the Calgary Transit Customer Advisory Group.
Was wondering why it was so hard to get to work the last week down Bow Tr. I take the 5th avenue connector, but yesterday I tried to take 11th Street to Co-op. No dice as it's closed again.
From the City of Calgary website:
11 Street at 7 Avenue SW
Details | Directions
9 AM May 22 to 6 PM July 5
The road is closed for work on the 7 Avenue Refurbishment Project.
The last time this road was closed it went from October to March (it was scheduled from October to January). Wonder what the over under is this time. My vote would be that it is closed until at least the end of July.

On a separate note, anyone else hit that ridiculous bump in the right lane going westbound on Bow Trail underneath Crowchild? I go out of my way to avoid that one... it's been almost a month and it still hasn't been fixed!
Apparently, the WLRT is going to open up in December, as originally planned, and not delayed until March.
This is from "LRT" on cptdb.ca forums, who said what the opening date for the NE extension was going to be back in April, which turned out to be correct.

Doesn't surprise me one bit. I'm pretty sure the "delay" was just for show so that when it opened as originally planned, it looks good on the design-builder. SNC-Lavalin has historically pushed to have projects open early. Given the tight timeframe in front of them, they probably estimated that they wouldn't be able turn over the project early this time, but that they would be able to open as planned so created the delayed opening announcement.

I'm really not certain, but I would guess that they are lower to help mitigate some of the visual impact of the overhead guideway on nearby residents as that was a (ridiculously and poorly articulated by those behind it in my mind) controversial issue with the design. You'll see catenary wires are lower in certain places in the existing system too. Tunnels, along 7th Avenue, etc. I'm not really sure what affect the lower vs. higher catenary wire design has on operations.
One thing to note though is that on the new west line and the new northeast extension, a different catenary design (configuration, materials) is being used and the rest of the system will be upgraded in the next couple years. This is being done to accommodate the upgraded traction power systems that will enable 4 car operation. The new setup is supposed to be more durable too and less prone to breakdown and maintenance issues.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think this was caused by problems encountered while testing. Pretty sure it was just part of the ongoing construction of the line.
Went for another walk in the lovely heat today from 73rd Street to 26th Street. A lot of curb, gutter and sidewalk work going on, but not on a holiday. More paving still remains to be done. Catenary appears to be complete (don't know about inside the tunnel). Access for photos is much better than before, especially at 45th Street.
While not the 'WestLRT' specifically, it turns out that there's a new C-Train station going up right behind my new place as part of the 7th Ave Refurbishment project. Downtown West - Kerby Station.

Yep. I'll take some more pics of it and Sunalta on the weekend.
Is there something more to the copper roofs that i'm not getting?
Is the weathered brown look what they were going for?
I was under the impression that copper was super expensive now, and would
think there would be countless other materials that would be cheaper and
more visually pleasing..

The copper goes brown, but after that, is pretty maintenance free. I think that's the reasoning.
