I wonder how long it'll be before I get busted watching games on my computer at work?
FYI everyone - cbcsports.ca is streaming all of the games live, and the quality seems to be quite good so far.

Considering it's 17th ranked vs. 83rd ranked, I think RSA is doing incredibly well.
The World Cup is a special time. You can just feel the energy of the world right now.

Not sure why that goal was disallowed. But more than that, how does the commentator not see the South African on the goal line thus putting the guy ONSIDE!! I thought that was an absolute horrible call. Unless it was made for a hand ball or some kind of infraction, that was a terrible call.
i cant be alone in this, someone seeing the same thing as me??

nope.
It's offside because the keeper is forward.
To be onside you have to have two players between you and the goal (keeper included)

Huh?? That doesn't make a lot of sense. I thought it was last defender. Why does the keeper matter?? If what you're saying is true, why wouldn't the keeper come off his line all time for plays like that??
There was a man on the goal line, that puts the Mexican foward onside. That's the way I have always known the rule.

That should have been a goal. Defender was keeping him onside.

Then you don't know the rule. Girly explained it correctly.

It's not the last defender, it's the last 2.
Offside is about whether there are 2 defenders goal side of the attacking player. So once the keeper came out there was only 1 defender. Any defender counts but usually the keeper is one of them. Linesmen often blow that call when there is a scramble in the 18 because they mentally count the keeper even when he's out.
But this linesman got it right.
I'm sure at halftime Lenarduzzi will explain it better than me.

I understand what Girly said, it just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If I read or see something about this rule, I will gladly concede that I was wrong, but I've never heard of this rule in which the keeper changes the offside line. I used to be a linesman in my teenage years and I don't remember anything like that.
If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but I don't believe I am.

Nope, the position (Goalie or defnder) of the player doesn't matter, you have to have 2 players between you and the net. The defender was on the line, but the goalie was forward of the Mexican player when the ball was tipped to him.
Absolutely the right call. The question is, was the ball going in the net anyway before the mexican guy pounded it home? If it was, it would have been a goal had the last Mexican player not touched it.

A player is in an offside position if he is in his opponents' half of the field and is nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the next to last opponent.

It is a bit of a strange one, because usually it is the last defender AND the keeper. But if the keeper comes forward, things get a little crazy.

I was also confused as it had always been explained to me as being the last defender back throughout my soccer playing days.
Decent game today, South Africa seemed to settle down a little bit as the half progressed but still are outclassed by Mexico. I think that this game will end in a draw though.

It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position.

It doesn't matter which position the opposition player plays, so long as there is one on the goal line.
EDIT: Sorry about the quotes. CP has decided to format my post oddly.
