ya i agree i'm surprised the Jets didn't go full out to get Cutler but obviously they thought what the Broncos wanted was too much. Regardless, Bears fans should be ecstatic that they finally have a legitimate #1 QB.

Considering neither 1st Rounder is going to be in the upper 1/2 of the round and the Bears are set at the most important position on the field for the next 10 years, I'd say it's a great trade for Chicago.
Forte is a solid RB, their OL is decent, okay WR and a really good (although aging defense). Minnesota, Green Bay and Detroit are going to be looking up at Chicago next year.

You and Josh McDaniels must be the only people on the face of the planet (oh yeah, Mel Kiper too) who would compare Matt Cassell to Jay Cutler. Ridiculous.

He's talking about the trade for Cassel.
Cassel has the franchise tag making him pretty pricey this year so that was partly a salary move by the Pats as they also moved out Vrabel. Cassel has one year experience. Cassel got to play on a Superbowl calibre offence for that season and couldn't get that team to the playoffs. Whereas Cutler does have two full seasons as a starter plus a few games prior to that and is signed for 3 more years at a lower rate.
I imagine every talent evaluator in the NFL has Cutler quite a ways ahead of Cassel right now. Although Cassel may have some intangible things and coachability that evaluators can't really gauge.

Well, I can live with the trade. More than I thought they'd get. As I said, I would have preferred a young defensive stud instead of the QB. If the personel department does their job, the Broncos will get two starters out of it and if they suck bad enough this year they'll have a shot at Sam Bradford.
If Cutler gets his head on straight, and I'm pretty sure he will, the Bears will be in the mix from now on. They might want to get some receivers though. Cutler is going to be missing his WR/TE group very soon.
I vaguely recall Cutler saying at some point that he grew up a Bears fan.

I didnt say that Cassel was the same as Cutler pls tell me where i said that. What i meant with this post is that if Cutler can get 2 firsts and a third Cassel should have at least gotten a single first. Im happy with what the pats got they were able to sign many free agents with the free space and dont have to pay the first round salary but what has Jay CUtler proved over Cassel? That he sucks in the clutch? how does that warrant him SOOOOOO much better than Cassel common guy get off your high horse you make it seem like we are comparing Brady and Grossman, Cassel and Cutler are not leagues apart from one another. Mind you Cutler is the better Quarterback just not by as much as you say (or like to think)

Greg Olsen is decent and will probably see a production spike having a guy like Cutler. Also, Forte was very effective as a receiver coming out of the back field. So Cutler definitely has check down/dump off options.
But when you look at the WR pool - Aromashodu, Bennet, Davis, Rideau, and company... yikes.
Perhaps the biggest upgrade for Cutler heading to Chicago will be the defense. Cutler has never been on a team with one.

I was wrong about this dragging on for weeks, the Broncos really pulled the trigger quickly. I think they were very anxious to move on as soon as possible and I also heard that they were adament that Cutler be traded to an NFC team.
Good trade for Denver, I think. They get a stop-gap QB that can manage a game, and can now begin the process of looking for a new franchise QB. They now have picks #12, #18, #48, #79, and #84 in the first three rounds. With Raji admitting to smoking pot, he just might fall to #12 and you can get your Nose Tackle. Draft a DE at #18, a Centre at #48, and use the third round picks for a LB and a DB and you've got a brand new defense, a two ready-now QBs, and at least a shot at the playoffs.

Yeah, we'll see how great Cassell is this year. Sorry, but the chasm is gigantic.

The Bears do have nice TE's, for sure. I'm a fan of Desmond Clark.
I agree, it will be interesting to see how he does when the defense gives him a chance to win. Special teams too.

I would say it's a good trade considering their hands were tied. You don't get a plug like Orton and two coin toss picks for a franchise QB, under a great contract that is in his mid-20s. Again, the market must have been pretty low if that's all Denver could muster. Orton is not a game manager... he's terrible.
Your idea to rebuild Denver's defense is good except for them picking Raji at 12. The Raiders pick before Denver and if a guy has serious character issues and a drug test at the combine, you can bet he's going to be a Raider.

There are 3 great centers in this draft, so that scenario is pretty likely.
I know they need a NT, but why bring in a guy with a chance at being suspended? I mean, it could turn out like it did with Warren Sapp or it could turn out like it did with Ricky Williams.
But, yeah, I like that plan.

Desmond Clark is actually the better of the two - and he was the one I was thinking about.
Good point about the Bears' special teams - a part of the game that is very underrated but very important. Without a #1 pick the next couple years, I'll be interested to see how the Bears get Cutler someone other than Olsen/Clark/Forte to catch the ball.

I'm guessing Jay's rumoured drinking wasn't a big issue as Orton is a notorious boozer.

As a broncos fan I'm very happy, three picks and Orton, Orton is obviously a downgrade but he had a great winning record with chicago and decent stats on a team with awful recievers, now he's throwing to marshall, royal, stokley and scheffler.
Those picks will really help out our D, I hope we use one to draft a DT, that's by far our weakest position.
