Disappointed for point. Disappointed Jarvis is the next guy up but it’s not the end of the world or anything. Should have been Bedard, would have been peak comedy if they took Stamkos.

Brutal for Point, hope he gets another run at it in 4 years. Jarvis is an elite vibes guy, happy for him, hope his boys from Winnipeg are firing up Skyscanner.
Brain trust really prioritizing continuity with this group.

Jarvis is an elite all-around talent. Can play in all situations throughout the lineup. It's the right choice imo. Not enough people watch the Hurricanes, he deserves to be on the team.

Yeah, this is odd now. I wonder if Bedard pissed someone off at Hockey Canada or something. It makes no sense to me.

Jarvis is a good choice. Still think Bedard needs to be there but Jarvis should have been there already too.

Yea that's tough, wish Bedard was there as well but imagine the staff likes that they know Jarvis from 4 Nations and they know he's versatile. He can play either wing, take faceoffs in a pinch, PP, PK.
Gives me the same vibes as Matt Duchene in 2014, arguably some "better" players they could have taken but Duchene could literally play any role on that roster basically F1 through F12, nice security blanket to have, probably see the same in Jarvis.

Again, I will ask....why should Bedard get the nod over Scheiffle? (fully understanding that Jarvis is both logical and acceptable

Depends on the type of player you want. If you want a dependable 200ft player, its Scheifele. If you want a player who is going to take over a game or get you that goal in the biggest moments, thats Bedard. He creates offence out of nowhere with his shot

Scheiffle is a better offensive player, at this point, than Bedard though....then add in the more complete game and there is no argument to be made for Bedard other than he is young....which is not a factor for those trying to build the winning team.
Bedard will get there in time...may even become the best Canadian forward at some point, but that is not now and should not be part of the decision process.
IMO anyway.

I don't think thats the case.
Bedard is ELITE offensively. A better skater. And the next gen of players for Canada (which should be a small contributing factor).

Since the beginning of last year
Bedard has 46 goals and 74 assists for 120 pts in 126 games (-38) Tied 44th in NHL
Scheifele has 66 goals and 89 assists for 155 pts in 138 games (+12) 10th in the NHL
So if Bedard is "ELITE" offensively...what does that make Scheifle?
Better skater? Sure,...now do every other part of the game

To me I really really wanted Scheifele there, but I'd have gone with either him or Bedard over Jarvis or Cirelli. Bedard has that elite release, and Scheifele can just do it all. It would be amazing to have seen three generations of futures (Crosby>McDavid>Bedard) on the same team, but I suppose Celebrini is there in the same vein. I'm also not sure about Stone. The guy has constant back problems but is a favourite of management.

Jarvis is a good choice because it's not Hyman.

What are the stats for this season only (1.21 ppg vs 1.20 ppg)? Or the past 6 weeks? Or the past 12 weeks? Why the arbitrary choice of last season + this season? And what kind of offensive support do both players get from their team mates? Scheiffle clearly has significantly more offensive help on his team. We can cherry pick the numbers here a number of ways.

Im curious how else we are supposed to compare players about offense if not by the numbers they actually produce then.
You dont like using this year and last? (I used that because the year previous was CB rookie season and didnt think it fair)
Lets do career then?
Scheifele 212 91 136 227 +31 1.07 ppg 16th overall
Bedard 194 68 113 181 -82 .93ppg 49th overall
6 or 12 week totals and you say im cherry picking numbers? LOL
OK, lets say they are even offensively...which they are not.
Again....do every other aspect of the game.
Its an absurd position to defend eh?

The games are LITERALLY ON TELEVISION

I doubt anyone here watches enough of both Chicago and Winnipeg games to comment very much.
I dislike Scheifele ever since his cheap shot in the POs, so I don't particularly like him on the team. But while Bedard clearly has big upside over his career, at this point in time is he a better person for Team Canada?
