It’s a pretty apples to apples comparison, that anybody should understand. What you’re missing that for every person that has regrets (in the transplant example those would be the ones where the transplant process failed), there are many more for whom it has increased the quality of life for (in the transplant example those would be the ones where the recipient went on to live a happy healthy life).

Trans people are 2 times more likely to think about and attempt suicide than lesbian, gay, or bisexual people, and 2 out of 3 surveyed transgender 14-18 year olds had seriously considered suicide in the previous year (McNeil et al., 2017; Veale et al., 2017).

The lifetime prevalence of attempted suicide for trans people is estimated to be between 32% and 41% (Mak et al., 2020).

A 2022 US survey found 94% of transgender individuals feel satisfied with their lives after transitioning (James et al., 2024).

Those lives matter. Just as much as every other life. They should not be overlooked. There should be more supports in place for them.

That doesn’t mean we should overlook the 6 percent. 94 percent is not close enough to 100.
