Having been to Wanderers Grounds, outside of the turf, it's no better than Clarke Stadium. But there is a cool factor to the games that only comes with big crowds. Also I think having the women's national team playing last year helped the cause, although the cynic in me is annoyed that Calgary can't get a game but Halifax can.
Hope the stadium happens. I think that would be a massive milestone for the league, much like the Crew building MLS' first soccer specific stadium in 1999. Building stadiums in this country is incredibly tough though.

Brutal result. Easy to blame the officials but this team had no finish.

#44 (Ndom) for Pacific was the best player on the pitch by a country mile. As strong as Warchiewski and as quick as Musse. What a game he had
Thought the subs made Cavalry worse and worse. Lost any ability to win a header or hold the ball up when Warchiewski went off and lost the ability to control the game when Gutierrez and Camargo went off. Looked like a bunch of guys who never played together before (which is probably the case).
Akio has had a horrible start to 2024. Is bringing next to nothing to the table offensively
Ah well, point is a point and onto Friday night.

I believe in the Jays.

It’s been a very disjointed start to the season. We’ve created very little in attack through 3 games.

Lleyton Brooks had negative value on the pitch.

Rough game today. Things didn't click in attack and Brooks and Dias in particular really struggled out there. Shaw was trying to do things in attack but it was easy for Pacific to put 2 or 3 defenders on him. Felt like the game plan was get the ball to Musse and cross your fingers.
Dias feels like he is playing a different game in midfield. Spent his time either standing still or asking for the ball only to run into multiple defenders and turned the ball over. Trafford chewed him out a couple times and by the end of his 20 minute cameo our section had turned on him. That's despite scoring a goal that was correctly ruled offside.
Supporters section was rammed with some newcomers which is always good to see.

There was some comedic value there to be fair.

My takeaways from yesterday
- Gutierrez looked really good.
- Camargo did his thing, getting into pockets and stretching the Pacific backline
- We do miss Bevan, particularly in this type of game where there's so little space for a #9.
- Akio is off to a slow start.
- Pacific's backline impressed me, particularly Ndon. He looks like a real find. But they offered so little going forward, save for chance they created in stoppage time which could have won the match for them.

Doesn't really seem like anything much has changed on the halifax stadium, that proposal has been around for a bit now. Be great to see it happen and it looks like a big improvement... but also holy crow it's wild that 40 million only gets you two very basic stands these days, no wonder minimal soccer infrastructure is getting built

In a lot of ways building a new stadium (as opposed to a stand) is like building a new neighbourhood. First you have to bring in all the utilities and the services that are below ground before you even start on the stands and the services around them.
Cav got a big leg up being at Spruce Meadows, and even with that ATCO field is a great playing field with a couple of temp seating areas, and little if any permanent amenities that don't require a bit of a walk to get to.

$40M doesn't get you much in the sports world anymore. Put it this way; there was $180M earmarked for the proposed FIFA2026 renos to Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton; that would have seen it brought up to code with barely anything visually changing. In reality, it probably needs about $300M in upgrades.
Costs have very much gone up in this sector over the last 20 years.

Didn't Commenwealth just get a major reno like 10 years ago?

Yes - the $112M Commonwealth Recreation Centre was built on the south side of the stadium, and seating was upgraded for $12 million. Still required is major concourse upgrades (including washrooms, food and drinks, retail), entrance/exit upgrades, internal players' changerooms / locker rooms, circulation upgrades and amenity spaces, loge boxes and suites, media spaces, a video board overhaul, and site landscaping. This is, of course, in addition to structural rehabilitation of the entire superstructure of the stadium.
Definitely lots to do still at Commonwealth to get it up to something resembling a competitive stadium in the US, Europe or Asia.

Ottawa just stomped Valour 7-0 tonight.
I've been saying for a while that Valour reminds me a lot of FC Edmonton. I really hope they don't see the same fate but with the current ownership group they have things just aren't going to get any better in Winnipeg.

I watched the first half and it was a complete mess for Valour, they made it so easy for Ottawa
