Other than the fixture congestion with important matches, nations league has to be considered as a success. There are many balanced matches due to the structure of the competition.
When you look at the matches for the nation’s league yesterday, versus the quality of the World Cup qualifiers played today, it’s clearly the nations league that has the more balanced matches due to the group and playoff structure.

Donnarumma was so busy being Italian and complaining to his teammates that he left his net wide, WIDE open.
The Italians were busy discussing pasta or something and Ze Germans just casually scored.

Italy just getting torn apart at the moment. Really odd.
Italy are usually a very stalwart, defensive side but this is a shambles.
Someone has told Donnarumma that he has to stop the ball before it crosses the line right?
Once again. I love goal-line technology. They complain but the ref just taps the watch and shrugs. It was well, well over the line.

Wish I watched the Germany Italy 3-3 draw. That sounded like fun.
FRA-CRO was utter domination by France. They reminded me of when Germany cruised through WC 2014 culminating in the destruction of Brazil. Olise, Dembele, Mbappe absolutely incredible all night. France dictated the play on and off the ball.
I can't believe Croatia got it to penalties (and almost won), but France definitely rightful winners. Mike Maignan is a terrific keeper.
When you watch how the players play and the fan enthusiasm, it's clear that Nations League is a success even among the European snobs. Hell, Nations league (IMO) has officially passed the Gold Cup as this continent's regional championship.

New Zealand are the 2nd team to qualify for the World Cup. They got the one Oceania spot with a 3-0 win over New Caledonia. New Caledonia will now go to the six team playoff for two spots in March 2026.
