The issue is not that this one was not as it can be argued any contact within the crease impeding movement can be called, but the one with Jamie Benn skating behind the crease and hitting Rittich's skate was not ruled GI is the problem.

There was contact with the goalie.
That negates the goal.
Now the contact is allowed if the attacking player is pushed into the goalie.
The attacking player was not pushed into the goalie. He was left with no option but contact or an unnatural full retreat.
Personally, I think that is enough to overturn the contact and allow the goal. However, that is NOT the rule.
Rule says to call the goal back.
No goal.

I would bet everything I own that if that is the Oilers instead of the Flames that is a good goal. There is zero consistency in the NHL and officials have been trying to dictate games for years.

I'm finishing up a bunch of stuff for a big presentation on Wednesday, so I'm not really watching closely. Bob Cole is giving me me heart attacks every time an Oiler touches the puck anywhere over the red line; the inflection in his voice rises and he gets excited like they're about to score. Literally every time.
