Also, I am pretty sure we would have to protect Callahan in the expansion draft.

Would getting rid of Gio's 6.75 plus expiring contracts Wideman (5.25) Engelland (2.9) Smid (3.5) not help with accommodating those 2 contracts?Kylinton and Andersson could hopefully fill in spots left by Wideman and Engelland.

To Calgary:Bishop Callahan Sustr or Nesterov/ To TB: Giordano Elliott 2017 2nd This trade could work for both teams.Tampa roles with Vasilevskiy going forward they get a vetern backup for playoff run and bolster their blue line with Gio.Tampa needs cap space next year to resign Drouin Palat Johnson who are all RFA's.Calgary takes back Callahan who makes 5.8 for the next 3 years and get a gritty RW who should still have a couple good years left in him.Lets be honest a signed Bishop would be worth a lot more but he isn't,this would give Calgary a few months to try and convince him to sign a contract with them.I think this trade would benifit both teams. What are your thoughts?

That does not improve our team whatsoever plus it limits us to sign FA's because we won't have much cap room.

How does that trade not improve our team you get a 6'7 #1 goalie and RW that could play in your top 6 that would bring some leadership and grit to your lineup. You are also getting rid of Gio's contract that could end up being a nasty one moving forward.

Callahan's contract is already brutal for a pretty bad player. I'm not a huge fan of the Gio contract right now and even I wouldn't make that trade.

And anyone who gives $7 million per to Bishop is going to regret it quickly.

Just for reference:

Ryan Callahan
23GP 2g 2a 8points
$5.8 mill cap hit till 19-20
31 years old

Ben Bishop
26GP 11W 11L 2.78GAA .905SV%
Seeking $7 mill AAV contract
30 years old

Yeah, no thanks.

To move one nasty contract of 6.75, we add almost 13 mill for almost same amount of years?

Callahan and Bishop are none of those things which you claim.

I'm hoping the ship has sailed on Bishop. He's not the answer looking forward. And the talk of trading Backlund is just crazy. I know the value is high but he's literally our #1 centre and you need players like him to win cups. If Monahan bounces back that's a great 1 2 punch down the middle. Give Bennett a couple more years. What we should be focusing on is a skilled rw and a goalie.

Yes. But Giordano gives you way more bang for your buck.

I really feel like, if we wanted to, we could get rid of Gio's contract without shooting ourselves in the foot.

Iam really surprised how little love there is for Bishop.I don't think any of our goalie prospects are ready to be a true #1 at this point surely Bishop has to be near the top of our list for available options.

There is very little, perhaps no, indication that Kylington and Andersson are ready for the NHL. Let's pump the brakes.

I think Andersson is closer than many people realize. When Wideman and Engelland are (hopefully) traded at the deadline, I think he spends the rest of the year on the main club. He's been a little lucky to have a 70% GF in his rookie year in the AHL but he's got serious talent.

Also, I think out of Hickey, Ollas-Mattson (gasp), and Rafikov (double gasp), there will be a NHL bottom pairing caliber guy by 2018-19..

I have been trying to think what team would be interested in taking that on? Perhaps the Islanders for Boychuk but the cap is almost the same and the term is just a year less so not sure if that makes any sense. Perhaps the Rangers for Girardi or Staal?

It would have to be a team who is in win now mode.

Do the Pens need a Dman? Does Gio for Kessel work? Cap and term wise it is a wash. Calgary gets a scoring RW but creates a huge hole on the blueline. Not sure Kessel would be the type of guy this team needs.

Gio would be a tough move to make

That's exactly why I thought a deal with Tampa would work so well. They are in a win now mode and need to free up some cap for next year to resign Palat Johnson and Drouin.Could change some pieces slightly but I really think the following could work out for both teams. To Calgary:Bishop Callahan Sustr or Nesterov/ To TB: Giordano Elliott 2017 2nd

Hate the Callahan contract and do not want to pay Bishop what it will take to keep him here
