They have always planned to announce the game modes later this week, or next week. It was going to be one of the last things they announced. They are sticking to their plan, no point in changing that.
IF, the online modes are gone, I can't see why the GM mode would be gone. That would leave the game with nothing outside of a practice mode and a play now mode... so I think your safe
For me, I'm waiting till EA themselves confirms ALL modes before I jump to any conclusions...

It does look quite iffy at the moment. Hopefully if EASHL isn't in the game at the start they will patch it in later.

From what I hear I think ps3 will still have it. Which might be the way all EASHL fans have to go.

If EASHL is out it makes sense. 12 players connected with cloth simulation, complex crowds and 12 player physics is probably a bitch to make work on consoles at an acceptable framerate

Either way though I'll still buy it, don't have a hockey game, and it's always fun to play Be a GM. Even if it is only a couple hours a week.

I agree... I had serious connection issues, and lag before, couldn't even begin to imagine what all that would cause.
Yet at the same time I have no issues with Battlefield and they are running up to 32 players. So who really knows what the story is.

We play 64 man servers some nights and don't have issues, besides the obvious cheating of other players because there is no way we are that bad
Big difference is dice provides those servers, NHL on the other hand......
Thank god for destiny being released on the same day. I was rather conflicted on how I was going to split my time up but now it's rather obvious.

Most of the stuff you listed is done client-side, aside from some physics, so that wouldn't effect the next gen online play much at all.
EA will just release EASHL and broken glass next year as the "new features!!!111"

Edit: I should mention, some NHL players are doing a live twitch stream today around 11:30 where they'll be playing it.

A little saddened by the trophies/achievements. I was actually thinking this game might be platinumable until I saw the HUT trophies. God I hate how they do that. It's getting better at least, but it would still require the equivalent of playing through about 5 or 6 seasons. I supposed there's always simulating.

I never really played HUT much before. Are you forced to buy packs in order to be competitive?

Somebody will have to chime in if I'm wrong, but I believe you don't have to buy anything, but earning them is a bit more of a task. If I recall that's what killed it for me. Losing my best player because his contract ran out but being offered a contract card for $0.99 just irked me. For the same reason Plants Vs. Zombies 2 ended with a sour taste in my mouth. I find there's a gentle balance with the freemium model between acceptable and outright infuriating.

^^^ Yeah, you can play HUT without actually paying for anything extra, but it's less fun playing online in that mode due to running into teams with an Ovechkin/Datsyuk/Crosby first line because people paid for packs,

to be honest, i usually buy a few packs early on, and then use the trade pile to build up pucks. i usually ice a pretty static team, but buy/sell dozens of players whenever i am in HUT to slowly build up a piggy bank. you can easily use this mechanism to ice a pretty decent team made up of 80-85 overall players. (ie. not made up of crosby/chara/etc).

Seems as though that live stream is running into technical difficulties. If you look at Twitter, it's still amazing to see the anger coming from people about this product. Every tweet they make has about 30 replies that are just straight-up mean. Almost all of it is EASHL related, and I understand the disappointment, but focused anger on individuals? It's a little sad to read.

The tweets towards Rammer are sickening.
