There is literally nothing in your gobblede#### bylaws that state anything remotely related to your objectives.

Take your act south of the border, or at least to a part of Canada where no one can hear you tickling yourself.

Holy crap, that's a pretty effective method to marginalize anything you may have stood for in the past or will stand for in the future. Honestly, I'm embarrassed to have ever sympathized with that moron, and will ensure it doesn't happen again.
What a completely juvenile, petty and amateurish move. Unbelievable.

You know.. I'm so happy you said this. To me, this states that your initial intent here is to try and squeeze a volunteer organization to either rebrand or buy their brand from you because they chose not to register with the provincial government.
You're despicable. On the level of patent trolls and domain squatters. Subversion of a group trying to increase civic engagement. Just disgusting. Are your kids proud of you? Grow up and try to do something good for society instead of this distraction.

I wonder if CivicCamp has a case to complain to the CIRA - this is clearly registration in bad faith.

Jane & Cory, some of had at least some respect for you and what you do. This latest stunt pretty much eliminates that respect from myself, and I'm sure quite a few others.
Perhaps taking down the .net website immediately and ceasing to use anything to do with that idea will allow you to attempt to rebuild a tiny shred of the respect that you had.

I think attending school with actual people is extremely important to child development. I know he's saying that just some courses should be internet based, but I still don't like it. Kids need to be around kids, and under actual supervision of teachers. Good teachers are what inspire kids. For example, I remember my 20/30 Social teacher, Mr. Tomochko. What an awesome teacher. He kept me interested in that subject because his personality, and his great teaching skills. I can imagine that a subject like Social would be the kind of subject that would theoretically become an internet based subject, and I think it would seriously take away from the class.
Tomochko was awesome at getting discussions going in class. Students would ask questions and as a group, more learning was done. And the wicked stories and tangents he'd go off on just made the class one that I never wanted to skip. Because I know what I gained from that class, I can only imagine how crappy it would have been if that class was some boring click screen lesson that I took sitting in front of a screen.
Sorry for the long post.
TL;DR, I was just rambling.
|
We live in the same riding. To be honest I was a little bit happy to see him bring up internet learning. There are some big advances in that area, and while I don't think its the great panacea he seems to, it could help Alberta deal with some class size issues, or maybe help some kids learn really specialised topics from the 'one' teacher who is an expert and that sort of thing. His campaign is basically nothing though...he'll be slaughtered on Monday.

Anyway do any of the other people running have a chance?

Unfortunately no. I have a fair amount of regret for not running to be honest, partly because I am far from impressed with our choices and partly because residents here deserve a legitimate choice of a differing viewpoint. Maybe in 2017.
I haven't decided which to vote for personally. I'm leaning Sorokoski at this point, but its like a choice between two people with no opinion on anything and no real solutions either. Then some of the things they want to do...its just so far down my list of priorities! Frisch was talking about resurfacing the playgrounds to ,make them more handicap accessible. Honestly, that's laudable and noble. I'm not so much against it as I just don't know how you justify spending roughly $40,000 per playground in the wards when there are so many other issues. A councillor here ought to be concerned with traffic, transit and where the thousands of other commuters will go once they redo Shawnee Slopes and start building Providence. Start there, and work your way to issues like playground access.

I opened the civicicamp.net website not really knowing about the .org site, and I was massively offended that anyone would waste bandwidth and storage space on the internet with that giant piece of crap.
I bet it took an hour to do, including the thoughtful grading of the candidates.
I am sure you people who are involved with the actual civiccamp.org are upset as well, and I can see why. If someone went to that site instead of yours, they might think you were idiots, just based on the site design alone.
