Why? Shinkaruk is a very good prospect.

He seems a Flames type of player and could take the reigns after Iginla. Calgary boy and natural goal scorer at every level he's been in. Also very feisty player that can turn it up physically and silky hands in tight. Realistically, I would like the Oilers to pick him or Lazar around 6th-10th, which is likely where they'll pick.

He is Finnish, why would he "bolt" back to KHL... lol

Because Shinkaruk at #3/4 would be a total joke. At #12 it would be a good pick. If we were able to pick up another 1st and get Shinkaruk with that I'd be ecstatic about the pick.

Please stop putting ideas into the head of our management.

Again, Shinkaruk is good at around 10, and I'd have no problem taking him there if we moved up with other assets (and not down with our own pick).

But he's a LW. We have many of those. If we're going to take a LW, it has to be Drouin.

If the Flames get to choose between Mackinnin, Drouin or Jones and they end up picking Shinkaruk, I'm out.

The worst part is, I wouldn't be surprised if they did exactly that. This team manages to screw up at everything.

As a Flames fan, I honestly hope we finish 30th this season. I would love us to have a crack at 1st overall. Now that Iginla is gone, who really cares, I want to see one great draft pick and maybe even two. Whens the last time we had two first rounders? Even Feaster can't F this up.

By the way, we don't know how good or bad the Iginla trade was for the franchise yet. We have to wait and see how these prospects turn out and who we draft. Could be huge.

Its a deep draft this year, but picks 1-4 apparently are homeruns....

How much of a Russian factor does Nichushkin have going against him?

I know Yzerman hasn't shied away from taking Russians, even those playing overseas during his time as GM. With a 5th-10th pick I doubt Tampa would overlook him because of the Russian factor, but might turn their attention to a more pressing need at the draft with a defensemen like Nurse.

And obviously Washington has the whole Ovechkin thing going for them.

But if Columbus has soured on Russians because of Filatov and Zherdev, maybe they overlook him with their pick. And if the other teams chose to go with less of a risk players as well, is there a chance he drops down to say around the 15th range or is he just too good?

If there's a chance I really hope the Flames try and move up with Pitt's 1st and whatever else they can to try and get him. A high risk, high reward player like that is exactly what you should be gambling on during a rebuild in my opinion.

Not sure how the lottery works regarding traded picks. Is it possible for the Flames to hold the 1st pick position and then the Pens pick wins the lottery and we'd get #1 & #2?

No, don't think so. Lottery has changed, so I may be wrong, but I still think it's only for the non-playoff teams.

Now, if they had another 1st rounder from a team that didn't make the playoff, yes.

Right, nevermind not sure what I was thinking. It's the non-playoff teams that's still the same, but anyone of them can move up to #1.

I'm not one to cheer for losing, but getting a top 5 pick is critical this year and a very deep draft for centers. We need to replenish the system with elite prospects and this is the only way we can get a #1 center.

It's going to he a hard move, I've been reading a lot and watching a lot of videos and scouting reports and it's really hard not too see how social drouin is going to be. Mackinnon is more of a scoring center then a playmaker, but he has elite speed and hands as well. You can't go wrong with either guy, but I think drouin will be the better player in the NHL.

Hopefully we get 3rd overall actually so we don't have the pressure of a 1st overall pick and being known as the savior for Iginla leaving. Also I don't know how people think barkov is slow, he's big and fast his skating is not a issue plus he's 17 tearing up a men's league. We will get a good player as long as we keep losing.

It's what we do with the other picks that will define this draft for us. We need to nail them.

Will he have Facebook, Twitter and MySpace?

What's even weirder is that TB is currently 3rd in goals for and is out of the playoffs. They also have a positive goal differential.

It's because the first 10 or so games they were averaging over 5 goals a game and were winning by huge margins. Then the East realized how bad their goalies are and they have been losing ever since.

I expect them and Philly to be out of the basement come seasons end.

MacKinnon with Baertschi would be a good combo as Sven is a pretty good passer, I'd say he is a playmaker before goal scorer, though he can score too.

Would be great to get another 3 pointer out of the Philly-Washington game. I'd love to see Philly win in OT and convince themselves they aren't out of it.

Indeed.

But they are on a roll, have won 2 straight, maybe they can make a big push and pass the floundering Flames.

I'm honestly not worried about Calgary winning those games in hand, their schedule is brutal over the final stretch of the year.
