What's shocking is that Rob Ford still enjoys quite a bit of support in Toronto. Maybe because he is "sticking it" to the media elites?

Unfortunately people enjoy characters in politics as a conversation point (caricatures, more like), and I think it adds a flavour shot into the otherwise bland world of politics. You're going to get voters in the next T.O. election saying "well they guy is just trying to be himself and live a normal life even as a politician". People may hate who he is, but love what he stands for - a ruthless conservative aiming to take out the excess at City Hall. Average voters see the campaign brand and stick to it.
Sadly, I see Ford winning re-electon. His approval rating is still around 46%, hardly unchanged from last month. That's barely any change between now and about this time last year.

Look every day that Rob Ford is in office is a great day for me. My sister is a hyper liberal free services no matter what the costs type of person with a loathing for Rob Ford. So whenever I have a bad day, I phone her up and whisper, "Rob Ford is still mayor" laugh like I'm on drugs and hang up the phone.
Please don't take that away from me.

The guy is getting raked over the coals by the media for his out of office lifestyle, but how good is he politically? I don't pay attention to Toronto politics, so is he improving Toronto while in office? If so, then who cares if he's a alchoholic druggie. Maybe he's the Grant Fuhr of mayors.

Rob Ford requested to speak to an inmate after hours in late March.

'That request was also declined and the mayor departed – leaving an unsolved mystery within the correctional service about why the mayor visited at such an odd hour, why he was indirect about the purpose of his visit and why he needed to speak with Mr. Bellissimo, a 43-year-old who has had run-ins with police and has what numerous sources describe as a history of drug-related activity.'

That's... a bit odd.
As for the Mayor himself, I hope he never leaves office. He is hilariously entertaining and I always look forward to a good Rob Ford story to make me laugh.
That's it, new avatar for me.

I hope he leaves office.
I think Stephen Harper is getting a tad long in the tooth and really, who better to take over and carry the federal Conservative baton then Mr. Ford?
Rod Ford, 23rd Prime Minister of Canada. It does have a ring to it.

I'm hoping that the whole english royal family is wiped out in a horrible photography accident and its discovered that Rob Ford is the last long lost surviving member of the Windsor family and ascends to the throne.

Yeah, there's so much smoke now there's gotta be a fire. Or a big fat crack pipe.
It is very entertaining though. All he needs now is a cheesy internet handle like Carlos Danger.
What about Pierre Hazard?

This guy is one of the most entertaining politicians in Canada ever. Canadian politics would be worth following more if there were a few more Rob Fords.

The trouble, of course, is that Rob Ford is not just an average guy. He is the guy who sits in the mayor’s chair.

If nothing else, this incident – the latest in a long series – shows a lack of judgment. It’s not that a mayor should be prohibited from having a little fun. But all public officials have to take care how they act when they are out and about, and that goes double for an official with a history like Mr. Ford’s, with so many people watching for what he might do next.
|
Quote:
According to a report in Monday’s Globe, the mayor appeared at the Toronto West Detention Centre at about 7 p.m. on March 25 and asked if he could go on a tour. When he was told no, the report says, he asked to meet Bruno Bellissimo, an inmate of the jail at the time. That request was declined, too.

Quote:
It would be easier to cut him some slack if he made an attempt to explain himself and clear the cloud hanging over him. Instead, he goes for a stroll on the Danforth and gets the whole city talking about his behaviour again. Once again, Rob Ford’s troubles are of his own making.

The Rob Ford crack scandal heating up again.
Quote:
Toronto police are investigating attempts by associates of Mayor Rob Ford to retrieve the crack cocaine video.
One target of the investigation is Alexander “Sandro” Lisi, 35, a Range Rover-driving Etobicoke man with a criminal history of threatening and assaulting women, who has been acting as an occasional driver and security guard for the mayor.
“(Lisi) knows he is the subject of an investigation,” said Domenic Basile, Lisi’s lawyer.
Lisi’s criminal record includes convictions for threatening death to one woman, and assault and threatening bodily harm to a second woman. He entered into a peace bond with a third woman who accused him of assault and threatening death. He also has been charged three times with drug possession. Only one of those charges led to a conviction, for which he was given an absolute discharge.
Lisi has told three associates interviewed by the Star that he is a supplier of drugs to Ford. The Star has been unable to verify Lisi’s claims, and Ford has not responded to questions about this sent by the Star on Monday.
