I dunno man I read the whole thing and he was saying things about Calgary I would say after living here for a while. I like it a lot and the negatives pale in comparison to the positives. Yes our traffic stinks, not much debate there. And to be quite honest Calgary's hate on for Edmonton is quite strong. Bryn is coming from an angle of being an Edmontonian though, so his mistaken idea of them having an off switch we don't is just home town bias. He was glowing about his time in Calgary frankly ... calling him a loser is really unfair and kinda childish.

It's also unfair to make a Calgary audience listen to a clear Edmonton fanboy on a sports radio station.

found it weird how obsessive the city is about its rivalry with Edmonton. Ya, there's the sports thing...and that's great. Nothing wrong with that. But having now lived in both cities, it's the City to the North that seems to know when to turn it OFF. Just found it far more petty in Calgary with no OFF switch. Couldn't quite get a handle on why, especially when you consider the overall outward confidence of the city.
Ummmm. Off switch?

I find this comment true and false at the same time.
It's true that Calgarians in general are harder on the city of Edmonton. Lots of people refer to it as a dump or a lesser city when you get into conversations about the cities in general. You won't hear too many Edmontonians talking smack about Calgary in general.
It's false when it comes to sports fans. I find Edmonton sports fans extremely abrasive and when it comes to the Flames/Oilers and Stamps/Eskimos rivalries. Edmontonians loath the Calgary teams much more than Calgarians loath the Edmonton teams. There's no getting around it the Edmonton sports fans are the most arrogant in the country as they all still pine about great 80's teams like it was yesterday. I see people in this city wear Oilers gear and never get grief but if you wear Stampeders or Flames gear in Edmonton you will get slagged.

I find that Vancouver is the most arrogant about their city and sports teams recently. It is a beautiful city so I get that and their hockey team has been good but still have never won the cup.
I agree that Edmontonians do not rip the city of Calgary as much as we rip their city but I also think most people from Edmonton recognize that Calgary is generally the nicer city overall. They have a rich sports history which is the best thing that happened to that city so I understand why they proudly tout their previous achievements.

I find Vancouver almost has some sort of inferiority complex. They can't say sentence without mentioning how beautiful their city is. It's like they have to constantly flog that to make up for the fact it's always under rain, the city is so ridiculously expensive to live, and that there's generally a lack of quality job opportunities to support a comfortable lifestyle. Who really moves out to Vancouver unless you are very wealthy, near retirement, or Asian immigrant?

Spending much time in Edmonton, and with Edmontonians; I can only agree exactly.

I think what he was getting at is that slagging on Edmonton being an actual dump above and beyond talking about the sports teams must be what he considers 'not turning it off.' To that I counter that his viewpoint is probably based on a notion that the two cities are somehow 'equal but different.' Of course as a Calgarian I'd be deeply offended at being lumped into the same heap as Edmonton civically and maybe that's why he as an Edmontonian feels the way he does.

He needs to realize that he was an Edmontonian in Calgary, so naturally people are going to talk about Edmonton with him.
As a Calgarian, when I am in Edmonton, I receive a steady diet of Calgary comments. However, I don't infer from them that these people are talking about Calgary all the time (when a Calgarian isn't present)

Yep, Bryn also needs to realize that he is under a microscope as well, given his previous history, when he starts talking about how "Edmonton is building something special up there", he is going to get slagged.

Kelly Kirsch announces today....Ryan Leslie from Sportsnet the new afternoon guy alongside McLovin. Never heard of him. Maybe seen him on there, but name doesn't ring a bell.
I'm glad someone's in there at least. As much as I value Loubardias' knowledge, I have a tough time listening to him. Once a week or so is all I can handle. I think he'd make a good once or twice a week guest or something to kind of update on the junior/upcoming prospects scene.

That's a solid move, I tuned into Pat's show during the Canadian WJC selection camp in Calgary and Leslie happened to be a guest co-host for the day. The show was very good, Leslie handled it very well. I found him to be knowledgable and easy to listen to, and he seemed to get on well with Pat.
Not to rag on Bryn but the show has been SO much better since he left. I think Pat is a better host without him, and it's been nice to hear old PL on the airwaves again.

i don't mind RL; but I'd like to know if PL put his hand up for this job or not - or is he comfortable filling in.
of course the optics of SN firing PL and then hiring him for the radio are some kind of odd......

You could tell Pat had a hard time working with Bryn, the dialogue between them always seemed forced. Its refreshing to have Peter right now as I find he has a plethora of hockey knowledge compared to Bryn.

Leslie was on the morning show just over 1 year ago I think. They got him doing 20 questions and it was an absolute disaster - he knew absolutely nothing about the Flames or Flames history.
He actually froze on the question 'Who should the Flames retire Next?'
Hopefully he isn't a total dud, but he was unimpressive.
