They needed an 8 game win streak and a 16 game win streak to get into the conversation and they still finished 5th in the west and played most series on the road.

They are the oldest team in the league. They lost or got rid of anyone that played with some speed or grit.

They have bought into the hype. They think a return to the cup is all but guaranteed.

I’m not convinced they are anything but a wild card at this point

Podkolzin; former 1st rounder that oilers got for a 4th. He WiLl BoUnCe bAcK to form! All he needs is time with Mavi. He’s a steal. First line winger! PP time! Mavi will teach him to dig in!

And yet…oilers dig themselves into a hole. Glitter twins playing 50+ minutes combined a night. Podkolzin BAD!

Here’s another funny. Bou-Bou is playing 25+ minutes a night…in a contract year. How’s that going to work out on the AAV and term? Haha stupid oilers.

The way it's going they'll to have to sever a limb they really don't want to in order to fit the guys they need under the cap.

The math on Douchard and McTantrum's raises simply doesn't compute with the current cap structure.

But fear not, Bowman's already run a masterclass under pressure up there.

The solution is probably to pay the crazy high price to trade Nurse. I really don’t know what that would cost the oilers because I don’t think any player with that bad of a contract has been traded in a long time. I would think it would cost two first round picks at least. The timing would likely work that they need to do that trade next summer or, at the very latest, the following summer (2026). If they did that… it’s no first round picks in 2025 (already traded for the last pick of first round in 2024), 2026 and 2027.

That means nothing in the system from those drafts and no quality cost-controlled young players coming to support McDavid/Draisaitl in 2027, 2028 and 2029. Window officially closed in that scenario IMO. The oilers don’t really develop much quality outside of high first round picks so they likely won’t have anything from the later rounds turn into anything helpful to them. The trend of veteran players taking a discount this year to sign with the oilers for a season will not continue once they miss some playoffs or are bounced early in the playoffs.

These are always my favourite stats that show up during the game. “Oilers are 21-1-3 after mcdavid scores in the first, skinner has over 15 saves and they are leading after the 46 minute mark”

Everyone can anoint the Oilers contenders or a playoff team…. Whatever. But the truth really is they could really be at risk of missing the playoffs this year. This is their only year in the “window”….. it closes quickly with having to sign Bouchard then McDavid. I truly believe they could be a lottery team in 2026.
