The problem with Club Champion is that they will always try to upsell you into exotic shafts, and the club manufactures don't give them a head only price, so you end up paying the full amount of the full club plus retail on the shaft. Their fitters do seem to be good though.
If you don't mind spending the money, and you are into the more exotic shafts, then it's all good. Just be prepared for a pretty big sticker shock when they show you your recommended club builds.

So the same as Modern Golf then. So go with the better fitter - Club Champion. Calgary is lacking for great fitting options - I think you are in the US so you likely have an easier time finding good competition.
So with the crappy weather a few weeks ago I went on a golf adventure in my mind... watching YouTube and Instagram golf stories to try and warm up... this caused me to finally decide that with my goal to golf 30+ rounds this year, it was time to upgrade from my decade old clubs (TM SDLR Driver, SDLR 3 Wood, Rocketbladz).
I went for a fitting for my drive at Golftown and was very surprised to end up hitting the new Cobra DS-Adapt MaxK the best (felt really good and looks nice too). So I ordered that... and then I saw that a Ogio bag I liked was on sale on the Callaway site, so I ordered that... then I was at Costco the other day and saw they had the Kirkland Signature wedges in stock... so I got those too.
Now I wanted new irons... but given the prices of irons ($1500+++) now a days I was a little apprehensive to but new... so I started looking at FB Market Place to see if I could find anything... was thinking Ping's or Taylormades to replace my Speedbladez... but wasn't happy with what I was finding.
...and then i went down a rabbit hole on Takomo Irons on YouTube. After doing a lot of research, and then using the online custom fitting, today I pulled the trigger on a set of Takomo 201's. Got to say I'm a bit nervous buying a set that I've never held before but the reviews (and yes independent reviews too) seem really good.
Either way I'm excited and thought I'd ask on here if anyone plays or has played Takomo?
^ I've never heard of Takomo until this post, but maybe I'm just out of the loop!
They are a direct to consumer brand currently gaining some popularity in the youtube space as both Grant Horvat and the Bryan Bros have taken an ownership stake.
I was considering going the Takomo route until I got a great deal on my srixon irons at the end of last year.

What’s the draw to DTC clubs? Can you hit them/get fitted for them prior to buying? Or is it just price?
I think it is mostly price. Most(?) of them will have an online fitting tool and some (eg. Sub70) have a demo program where they ship to you, you try it out and ship it back.

Definitely the value. I bought a set of Stix as my first set of clubs, 11 club set with a bag for ~1300$. I'm probably a 22 handicap and have only golfed for a few years so I'm far from an expert but they feel good to me and it's not the clubs holding me back. I tried a set of Ping G430s in Scottsdale and even though they were really nice they didn't do anything for my game haha.
I won't buy a new set until I break 90. Let 2025 be the year!
I looked up a 3 wood on the takomo sight and it didn't seem that cheap at all for Canadians. Would end up being around $375+ shipping.
I did a fitting at PXG last night for a 5 hybrid. I was under a similar impression as you were that these DTC companies are allegedly cheaper and it came back at $320 USD with a stock shaft. Hell of a club though, same distance as my 5 iron, but higher with a 5 degree better decent angle, which might help hold the green on long par 4s/short 5s.

Honestly had no idea how much a new fwy wood was so just had a quick look on golftown site - $500 up to $800+ for current models of the popular brands. Up to you to decide it takomo is "cheap" in comparison.
I must be getting old - I miss the days when you could get an iron set for what it costs for a driver now!

I bought my DS-Adapt at Golftown and it was around $750... the custom Takomo 201's (longer shafts/lie adjust/grip upgrade) with shipping was $950 CAD... so I was close LOL

So you won't buy a Canadian product because you saw someone in a Cyber truck?
That's bizarre.
Well I got new irons last year, and I'm only half serious.
But how any company chooses to advertise does impact who buys. That's kind of the exact point of advertising
