I wonder how much that changes this season. Last year he spoke about the long, mid-season break, and how much that played into decision making with the goalies in the second half. Without it, does Markstrom get a little more rest down the stretch?

Has to be the front runner at this point.
If the team has any success at all it will be hard to take it away from him.

This guy was handed a ##### sandwich to start the off season. Somehow turned it into a A5 steak dinner.
Bravo

Well...we've wanted the Flames in terms of strategy to pick a lane.
Treliving has picked his lane and smashed the gas.
I wont deny that he has done an amazing job, especially in terms of the poor hand he was dealt, but make no mistake, this is a 'High-Risk/High-Reward' strategy.

While he has done a great job with the Turd-sandwich dealt to him, don't forget the turd sandwich was entirely his & ownership's fault. At this point I give him a 50% rating, we're effectively back to where we all thought we would be by signing Johnny/Tkachuk. Some people might try arguing we're ahead with Weegar, but I'd argue pre-implosion, everyone would have taken the continuity that is Johnny/Tkachuk over Hub/Weeg/Kadri 99 times out of 100.
I'd say Treliving has done enough to save his own job after he almost cost himself his job. GM of the year doesn't lose his top 2 players

Actually.

People were PUSHING for him to be fired at the end of this past season because they didn't want to see what Treliving might do if he stayed on as GM.

How did he get himself into that position? And what could he have done to prevent it? Two questions I’ve consistently been asking people who say what you are saying. I’ve yet to get a straight answer.

Tre has obviously learned something and has found a pair of brass cojones. Big ones.
At the time we were polled I was in the "should be, but won't be". Happy to have been entirely incorrect on that score.
The one sore point - and I'm sure he's just as sore about it - was JG. Brad left it too late and trusted him too much. No doubt another lesson learned.
Meanwhile...HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRAD! Hope your daughter does well in Uni, Kadri does well in Calgary, and Monny does well in Montreal....and whatever else you have for us today.

No, we're not, because now we've actually signed those players to long term contracts, and possibly upgraded the roster in the process. The only negative you could hang onto now is having an older core, but that's really looking for something negative.
The Gaudreau and Tkachuk negotiations are well documented at this point. Treliving did everything necessary to re-sign Gaudreau, according to his agent, and he walked anyway. Tkachuk has been planning his exit to the U.S. for years and I think Treliving knew that, but still got a king's ransom in return.
Short of doing these deals a year earlier (which wouldn't have been possible because each of their respective teams are in very different circumstances now), I don't think there's a reasonable criticism here. Even if you can make the deal a year earlier, is there a similar deal available that could substantially improve the team? My guess is no, otherwise he might have explored it.

Bad Coach
Bad Players
Bad GM
It's time for a change.
