I only watched the highlights and read some of the comments on the game, so I don’t have the full picture, but I’m seeing a fair number of Oilers fans saying that Skinner played really well. Again, just based on the highlights, I thought he looked pretty scrambly and unsettled in the net. To my eye, that “pterodactyl” save was him flailing to get back into position after overplaying to his glove hand side. And he didn’t manage to get reset before the next shot, which went in.
The best goalies make the fewest five alarm saves because they’re almost always squarely in position. Skinner is not that.

As he's lying on the ice, I think thats whats going through Skinner's head.
"What the #### was that?"
Because lets be honest, that second Oiler (dont know who it was) was also getting ready to blow the zone...before they had possession.
Thats 3 on 1.

He did play pretty well, IMO.
But I agree on the Pterodactyl save - saves like that are A) lucky (either the puck hits you or it doesn't, and B) entirely the result of the fact that you were out of position in the first place. But he did have a good game, overall, and no chance on any of the 3 goals.

The Oilers have 14 goals in 7 games, and lead only SJS in goals per game

yep,, the least dangerous player is the guy leaving the zone in OT with 7 seconds left. mindless defensive awareness and coverage. love seeing it though
Oilers blow a 2 goal lead and Flames don't give up and win in Shootout love it!

The Flames scored their 14th goal of the season at 7:06 of the third period in game number 3.
Against the Oilers.
It was the game winning goal.

Yeah, the 'School of Hasek' is a little outdated these days.
They look cool...but they're problematic.

In former Oiler news, Ryan McLeod now has 4G 1A in 8 games.
Matthew Savoie is in Bakersfield.

There is something about the Oilers in the bottom 5 that just feels natural.

There was no school of Hasek. No one else could do what he did. He was a unicorn.

Between that and trading 1sts for things that don't currently help they seem to have no clue ...

I myself am abundantly regaled by the seemingly daily pratfalls of Edmonton Hockey Club.
Is this common?

It's like when Flames commentators used to drool over Mike smith's diving saves
The thing is it was only needed because he was caught well out of position and had to correct in a pinch.
I'll take the .940 goalie who puts you to sleep because hes so well positioned over highlight reel theatrics from an .890 goalie.
I'm sure oiler fans would too.
