In the article, it says that he was responsible for drafting Landeskog (#2 overall), MacKinnon (#1 overall) and Duchene (#3 overall) when he worked for Colorado. Maybe they are getting ready for the next decade of darkness.

lol what a shrewd pick

Tyler Wright, mentioned above, was a 12th overall pick. Oilers shrewdly traded him for a 7th rounder. Now that's how you build a contender.

I mean, Landeskog is a fine player, but consensus was RNH at number one and him at 2. Except he’s actually about 7th in scoring in that draft. He’s behind Kucherov, Gaudreau, Huberdeau, Zibanejad, RNH.
Same for Duchene. After Tavares and Hedman, he was a natural pick.

Sounds like someone had compromising photos of Bouchard at that price.

Although the detail about the Smyth brothers refusing to pay becomes even more hilarious if you're thinking of a different kind of foursome!

Outstanding short term value, but bridges have no upside and can screw the team long term. Bouchard could be out around the same time as Draisaitl and McDavid.

I don’t think the oilers care about the long term. McDavid and Draisaitl gone within 3 years. Team will be full tank mode by then.

It looks like he has 4 more seasons before UFA status.

The Oilers have to go all in. They have two years of prime window. I think we see them be very aggressive with their picks and long term cap space.

That's quite a haircut for Bouchard.
I wouldn't let the Oilers pay me less than what I'm worth just to help them put their chips in because they backed themselves into a corner cap-wise. Evan should be looking to set himself up for life. You never know what can happen. Don't let these greasy ####ers off the hook that easily.

Now that it is announced that they are closing in on a deal, it would be hilarious if a team jumped in and did offer sheet him knowing exactly what the Oilers are offering in public.

… it would also need Bouchard to leave $3.5 million dollars on the table in a sport where career ending/altering injuries happen.

Really hard to determine how good he really is though. He's got a hard shot but he's not the greatest skater and any offensive production is inflated because of their powerplay that turned RNH into a 100 point player.

Then offer him a two year deal. One year deal is probably better for Bouchard. Either way the teams collude and that is why you never see RFA’s being signed by other teams.

I have no idea where you see collusion happening.

More like THIS season to go all in. If they falter, they're' screwed. Bouchard helped them a little bit, but keep in mind Brown's bonuses factor in the cap for next season. Just for fun, if you add that to Bouchard's cap hit for next season, it's like they signed him to 3.9m this year and then an over 7m cap hit next.
