Matthews' new deal certainly puts an end to Nylander in Toronto. Treliving would be wise to move him for a couple players with a similar total cap hit and some term that can plug some holes in the lineup.

I want no part in a Lindholm to Boston trade. I don’t think they have anything that can be added to Debrusk that would make me happy

Does it though? I can definitely see a scenario where he plays out his contract in Toronto with them going for it and letting him walk into free agency. Unless that's what your implying? I just can see them trading him when they are going for it. I feel like they would try to trade other players to make it work?

The Athletic just put out an updated Top Prospects list. Here’s the top three for the Bruins:

1. Mason Lohrei (LD)
2. Fabian Lysell (RW)
3. John Beecher (C)

Lohrei is a riser. Was their top skater in rookie camp in July. Big kid (6’4”), and 22, so ready to step in and challenge for a roster spot. Skating is not great.

I dunno, I just have an irrational and completely unsupported desire to re-sign Lindholm and obtain Nylander. Goodbye to Hanifin for prospects and picks, before camp (or TDL). Commence 2023-2024 season.

I'm a simple guy.

Lohrei is an excellent prospect IMO. His skating and defensive game have come a long way.

I’ve always loved Beecher, he’s gonna be a great 3rd liner, but there’s not a whole lot of offense there. He’s big, fast, and physical though. He’s also American, so he would not want to come here.

I would love Tuch in our lineup, he would be perfect. You’re right though, he’s got the hometown boy love affair going in Buffalo.

Another pipe dream would be Jack Quinn. I would trade Hanifin+ to get him.

Well then I guess you try and trade huberdeau and any other vet as we will be short on a #1 center

CBJ and Buffalo are the teams in Hanifin rumours that seemingly have the kind of assets we want, and the sizeable talent pools that allow them to part with some assets, IMO.

I might be in the minority but I don't find Lysell that compelling. I'd have him behind Zary in the depth chart.

If you are part of the rebuild crowd than sure, I don't think actual Flames would touch that with a 10 foot pole unless they are flipping some of those assets with others to acquire a new #1C. The mandate is to make the playoffs this year, that trade doesn't work for that.

What kind of deal for Lindholm would see a player of similar calibre coming back to the Flames? I have a hard time coming up with one where the Flames something better than a 27 goal forward back.

OK what's your solution then. Unless you are advocating to re-sign Lindholm?

Yeah, player for player you will lose any Lindholm trade. You certainly getting back a 1C since, while I like Lindholm, he’d not be n the top 1Cs in the league. The only possible such trade would be for a similarly situated 1C like Scheifele, and then you’re in the same boat.

There seems to be a gap between the reality of what these trades will look like and the desire.

The rumoured/speculative SJS offer of Eklund is far and away the best offer imo.
Eklund is Lindholm light at this point, playing wing and C but solid both ends of the ice and only 20.
