Still waiting for additional sources to report on this, but seems to be some talk that one of the biggest ####bags in this conflict, Russian Defence Minister Shoigu as been "sidelined" (whatever that means, canned?).
Would not object to this war criminal having the standard Russian-issued window accident happen to him that seems to run rampant.
Speaking of crossing borders and not knowing the status of heat generating fuel inventories in Europe with winter coming....at any point does Europe/NATO contemplate other means to secure resources?
Make the Russian who can afford to travel feel like they aren’t wanted by banning them. Because they aren’t.
The average Russian, as from poll after poll I saw (not just kremlin polls but to be fair have looked at them in a while) is FOR the war in Ukraine. 3/4 of Russians support.
Hurt the people. Their support is enabling the rape, pillaging and murder of Ukraine adults and children.
Hurt the Russian people.
There support of the war shows that the average Russian is a gross human.
Hurt the Russian people with things like tourist ban and continued trade embargo. They seem to care what the world thinks of them.
Nobody is telling truth in a poll, Kremlin or otherwise, in a country where you can get jailed for disapproving the "special operation". If some random would call me and ask whether I support the war, I would say that I absolutely do. I would gain nothing and risk a lot by saying otherwise.

Russian media does quote "British intelligence" on this, but no confirmation from Russia itself, as of yet.

You're talking about a country where Putin poisons his political rivals and then throws them in penal colonies when they recuperate. The polls have as much legitimacy as the election results showing Putin winning in a landslide.

Yeah that is true. It's not surprising that the polls rate so high. If I'm in Russia and someone calls me up randomly and asks my opinion on the war, I'm saying I approve. If someone approaches me on the street to randomly chit chat and asks me, I'm thinking it's a trap and saying the same. Maybe it's paranoia, maybe it's justified. But I'm sure those with their heads on straight know what to say.
I personally think that the polls of those who approve of this war isn't as high as state media says, but is probably still higher than it should be. My wife interacts with Russians everyday at her job here in Calgary and she has come across some who support, some who don't. We saw our first "Z" car too, decked out with Russian symbols and a giant Z on the back window. There's definitely some supporters here in Calgary. Also some who are super ashamed of their home country and have given gifts to my wife when they find out she's Ukrainian as their way of saying sorry (including one Russian lady who made my wife a beautiful Ukrainian blanket).

True, but Putin did it and might have Europe by the balls re: energy the same way China has the world by the balls re: supply chain. This winter will be telling.
Twitter is going wild with optimism but we should probably temper our expectations for the southern offensive.
It's been a good day, relatively speaking. But people need to temper their expectations and realize that Ukraine is still sacrificing a lot each day to make this happen, with no guarantees.
Saw a post from an official with the US gov that over 500 civilians deaths occurred over the past 2 days which is still probably a conservative estimate.
My mother-in-law mentioned that masks are now required again on public transit in Novosibirsk. Apparently this was due to all of the viral labs in Ukraine producing biological agents.
<sigh> She’s a retired engineer and otherwise a smart woman but is believing whatever she’s told either through state propaganda or people with whom she talks.
Just a few weeks ago in Kelowna of all places, I saw a truck with Canadian and Russian flags, and a big "Z" on the side. It was pretty disappointing.
You guys may want to crack down harder on this. When I was in Kazakhstan last month, locals there tolerate no Z. There was a news report about Russian tourist wearing a t-shirt with Z. Locals called the police and he was ordered into hotel. Then a resident guy put Z on his car, others saw it and called police. Z was removed. There was even a news about some local shop named "Z-grocery" or something, that has been around for years and has nothing to do with the war. Police ordered them to change the name. They say we understand Z has nothing to do with the war here, but it breeds discontent and tensions in the community. Just get harder on this, tolerate no Z.

I was going to say… if there were ever a time we should pass a blind eye to vandalism…
