I honestly think it might be worth buying BGIII even if you're not that interested, and at full price, just as a statement about how games should be made.

Why Baldur’s Gate III is an accidental PS5 console exclusive
Baldur’s Gate III is available right now — partially. To be clear, the game itself is complete, but its rollout is fragmented, with different release dates for each of its planned platforms. Following a lengthy Early Access period, the PC version of Baldur’s Gate III went live today, August 3, while the PlayStation 5 and Mac versions are due out on September 6. The game’s developer, Larian Studios, hasn’t provided a release date for the Xbox Series X and S edition.
Microsoft requires all games to run, feature-complete and without changes in quality or mechanics, on both the Xbox Series X and Series
Rocksteady senior character technical artist Lee Devonald similarly tweeted about his experience building Gotham Knights — a game that shipped on consoles with a framerate locked at 30 fps and no performance mode. According to Gamerant, Devonald said that multiplatform developers had to “optimize for the lowest performer,” and, “we have a current-gen console that’s not much better than a last gen one,” referencing the Xbox Series S.
"[An] entire generation of games, hamstrung by that potato," Devonald tweeted.
The bolded quote was a bad take, by a dev working on a terribly engineered game. Also the comment was tweeted and since been deleted a long time ago like at least 9 months.
I bet if we look back 9 months, I'm sure you posted the article the highlighted quote was taken from in regards to Gotham Knights.

I hope the message is being heard. BG3 has over 700k concurrent players. That's got to open some eyes.
Has anyone tried playing on Steam Deck? It's supposed to be playable with some tweaks.
I mean, so far in BG3 I've 1) picked a fight with a squirrel 2) walked in on a bugbear and ogress having sex and 3) sent a Gnoll to go eat a bunch of people that annoyed me. Best rpg I've played in a long time.
Bought it and downloaded it, will get into it after an upcoming lake trip.
Just wanted to throw my hat in the ring of supporting no micro transactions asap.

Finally sitting down to begin Zelda. It's been sitting on my to-be-played pile for two and a half months.
There was a time when I'd line up at Toys R Us Market Mall until 3:30am just to get my hands on a copy of the latest Zelda game and a Wii, only to luck out but score one further down the parking lot at Zellers then immediately pull a 16 hour playing session instead of going to class before catching a few Zs before work.
So BG3 - never played D&D, but I did enjoy the old Baldur's gate dark alliance, dragon age origins and other RPG's. Doing some reading on it and it seems like there is a lot of learning I'll need to do. I would be getting it on PS5, but what are your thoughts on this for a non D&D player? How much "work" is this going to be for me?

It's very DnD 5e, which is good because this version of DnD is the most player friendly. If you enjoyed Dragon Age Origins you'll enjoy BG3, the only major difference is the combat is turn based (xcom/final fantasy tactics). I say jump in, I'm 7 hours in having an absolute blast.

I barely know DnD 5e or CRPGs in general but I’m loving BG3. I do recommend playing on the “easiest” difficulty and save all the time though as it’s super easy to mess up. For example, I still accidentally initiate combat before I’m fully prepared for it (I.e. trying to sneak attack or some other critical).

lots of smoke regarding an RDR remake coming out in 2024 or so. I'd be very happy with that ... I've never played the first game and they could obviously adapt it a bit too, now that they have a prequel to reference.
hahaha, silly me ... I was so excited about this possibility that I completely forgot for a moment what an ####### company Rockstar has become over the past few years.
because of course they won't do a remake or a remaster, they are simply releasing a port of the game for PS4 and Switch next week. Yeah, you read that right - PS4 instead of PS5, and no PC either. But guys, it's only 50 bucks! Almost a steal for a 13 year old game. Thank you, Rockstar!
If they port the PS3 version to PS4 and Switch, they’re porting from a version designed for that insanely complicated Cell-based architecture to an X86-64 architecture.
If they port the Xbox 360 version to PS4 and Switch, they’re porting from PowerPC-based architecture to X86-64.
Both of those options involve a nontrivial amount of engineering effort.
Modern Xbox got lucky with RDR as the Xbox just uses backward-compatibility emulation and applies a bunch of enhancements to the game.
The Switch version actually does look noticeably better too. They’ve obviously improved the lighting, touched up some textures and models. It’s not a full remaster but I think calling it a port loos a bit disingenuous too.
I only make say it makes sense as a full price on release on Switch because it’s never previously been on a Nintendo or portable platform before, so there’s some new audience factor at work. I imagine most people in the PS / Xbox ecosystem, if they haven’t already played it or wanted to play it again, have access to a much cheaper method to do so.
Shame they compared it to the Xbox 360 version on the 360, I'd be interested to see how it stacks up to RDR running on a One X or Series X with the enhancements.

Didn't realize what they've been doing, happy to avoid this kind of thing. But it certainly lines your pockets.

Am I just getting too old or what? I used to play video games all the time, lots of different genres too, sports, fantasy, RPG, shooters, racing, simulators, etc.
But this year I just dont have the interest, even considering cancelling GamePass. My son (14) doesn't seem to be playing as much either.
Lack of interesting new games maybe? Sick of all the in-game purchases needed? Or the grinding it out? I'm not sure but its a pretty sudden change.
Age may have something to do with it, or could just be mild burnout of games. I find I go through swings where I play quite a bit then don't play for a while, but in general as I've aged I think I play less games overall. For a while you have to play less because of family commitments and stuff, but when you get more free time later I do play less games than when I was younger. I focus on the best games now too, I don't even bother with ones I may only kind of enjoy.
I completely avoid in game purchases, but the grind of a game is a big factor for me.. I play on PC so I can often cheat to avoid the grind. If progressing the game involves having to go out and grind for a few hours to get the gold needed for the necessary weapon or need to gather flowers to craft the pouch or whatever I'll often just give myself $1 million gold and buy the things. Sure it makes the game a bit easier but I usually focus cheating on trying to save time.. just pretend I spent 2 hours grinding resources or farming gold.
These days I'm usually a lot more about the game's story or environments or characters or whatever.. exploration and experience vs. skill. Like if I ever went to play Elden Ring I'd probably just cheat the XP so I could be super over levelled so I could explore and have fun cause I really don't have the motivation to spend the time to get good.

Anyone else experience that?
Gaming fatigue? Since I moved in May, I didn't seriously start using my Xbox again until probably this past week. I played seriously less than an hour in May, maybe 3 hours in June, and bugger all in July.
It can seem like there is so much choice that you can't be arsed to choose a game to play sometimes. The Netflix / Skip the Dishes effect.
