Edit: Duthie saying on twitter that talking to Canadian players on the ice or the bench none of them realized it either, and only one Czech player realized it. So weird that nobody noticed in real time.
My theory: Normally too many men comes from a play near the benches when the puck comes over. When it happens like this players (and fans and coaches and refs) are too focused on what's in front of them. So it's not something they ordinarily look for.

Boy, things have really picked up in the elimination round. The round robin was far less interesting. I wonder if any format changes should be considered to make the round robin more meaningful.

Being able to challenge too many men on the ice HAS to be something that's added as a rule, you'd think.

As someone else said, if you can challenge offside there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to challenge this.

Comeback complete. Fins win in OT.

Canada will play either Finland or Sweden in the semi.

Finns win - which is probably better for the Semi's, but feel bad for the Swiss

I also think it shows if you have too many men your best course of action is just don't react.

If one of those 6 guys panics and rushes to the bench they are going to catch it.

But since everyone is just playing it's harder to notice because nobody did things out of the ordinary for a player.

Swiss blew it, sat back too much in the third and invited too much pressure.

Hmm that's such a slippery slope though.

Because then you're going to get teams just challenging lazy changes that don't impact the play.

But there does have to be a way for blatant scenarios - maybe it should just be a rule the off ice official can call down for. Would prefer that to a challenge.

It's a more subjective call, for sure.

Maybe if the team has possession with 6 players on the ice when a player isn't in the act of changing, or some iteration of this.

abolutely love the 3-on-3 OT in the NHL, but not a huge fan of it in the knockout stages at such a tournament.

Maybe it's just me but I don't want any part of Finland if I'm Canada.

Agreed. Should be 5 on five OT in these elimination games. The only plus for Canada is we have the 3 on 3 specialist on our team...

It is crazy that neither bench, neither of the two main broadcasts, nobody here on Calgarypuck, and even very few people online (the guy on reddit, 2-3 people on twitter).

Like I can't remember such a blatant missed call, that EVERYONE missed in the social media era.

On TV is one thing but in the building watching the entire ice...I can't even. We don't get away with those in beer league. I'm sure there was some guy screaming about it in section 315

Im in the minority i guess....i want the US to win because i want a US/Canada gold medal game....after the 4Nations it would be about as must see TV as could exist IMO. Add in how those 2 teams bring out the best hockey in each other and.....its a no-brainer.

Plus....who doesnt wanna be in a pub Sunday morning at 530 am

In Canada, with knowledgeable fans, sure. They call every perceived infraction. In Italy maybe not.

But it seems like not even the knowledgeable people in the stands like Bennett, or management, said anything.

I actually understand missing it in the building....but both major networks who have dozens of angles of replay ability.....and nary a word was said.

Truly one of the stranger scenarios ive experienced as far as that kind of thing goes.
