Just get some good future based assets that align with our rebuilding phase, this seems to be dragging out needlessly long

Just take a look at the deals made for defensemen: Dobson returned two 1st plus and he signed an extension: Miller returned a 1st, 2nd plus and he signed an extension.
Conroy is clearly holding out for a similar package but is not getting it because Andersson’s agents have let it be known through the media that he wants to sign in Vegas so other teams are not offering the same packages.

Bet that's why the re-signed Hanley today. Cascading effects of deals not made.
Wonder what the rest of the package was.

Obviously don't have all the details but I'm quite sure I'm happy there wasn't a trade that ended with us having Hague signed for 4x5.5

Hague is a mid 20’s left shot top 4 Dman but that would have been very underwhelming for Andersson but the 2027 1st would have helped balance the deal

He's a big physical defenceman, and he's 26. Flames looking to round out their top-4:
Hanley (?) - Weegar
Bahl - Parekh
Anyone of our depth D - Pachal

Hague would give size and/or meanness to each pairing (Hague, Bahl, Pachal). It's certainly a bad contract, but I can squint and see the rationale...but you're right in that it wouldn't be a good contract to hold.

This also makes me think diss' 3-way trade may end up being the path because it sounds like Conroy is targeting a roster defenceman in the return.

Probably was Hague and a 1st. Bahl trade 2.0. Can’t say I’m too mad that one fell apart

Hague is not a top 4 D, he played 16min a night, he is bottom pairing guy, and he doesn’t do that particularly well.

There were a couple of big windows that were missed by management — last year’s trade deadline and prior to draft and now between the draft and UFA.

Hague is awful and so is that contract. He was traded for a 4th liner and another 3rd pair dman.
This gets worse and worse. The fact we wanted him and he rejected us.

Conroy at his availability sure made it sound like Andersson was staying Calgary, mentioned that guys end up re-signing all the time, and said they needed Rasmus to have a big year for the Flames.
Of course he isn’t going to come out and say that are going to trade Andersson no matter what before the season starts.
I am leaning towards Andersson playing with the Flames next year though. I don’t think Conroy is going to get the return he is looking for at this point.

It's concerning that the Flames identified Hague as a target at all. Not a guy they need — entirely redundant.

Our top 4 D for your 7th best prospect or bottom line player and a late first with low probability of becoming a 2nd or 3rd liner 5 years from now. Just sign him at this point. If there’s no value just keep him. Out of principal you can’t have teams thinking your just as bad as Allvin.

You do realize Friedman likes to speculate a lot right? Did he say I'm told this would have been a done deal if Hague was included? You have to be careful with how Elliote spins things.

Hopefully it wasn't as a target for Hague to actually play for the Flames, but to be part of a different deal.

There's also no guarantee any of these media reports are accurate as opposed to calculated "leaks" by a specific team or agent to sway the public perception or put pressure on the Flames. I think we're too willing to accept any rumour as true.
